Ruptured Eardrum

My 13yo ruptured his ear drum on Saturday evening. He started with slight pain in the morning, but by midnight was draining blood tinged pus. We took him to the ER, having never dealt with anything like this. They gave him penicillin and a rx for amoxicilin. I'd prefer to not do the abx, but erring on the side of caution at the moment. The ENT won't see him until next week and I have questions they won't answer until then. How long should his ear drain, how long until he feels comfortable enough to talk again? He seems to slowly be getting his appetite back. I have upped his yogurt and kefir intake to counter the abx, is there anything else I can give him to get through this faster or alleviate some of the pain (preferring not to use tylenol)? I prefer a more natural route than abx, but being new to town, I've not yet found a doctor to consult with, so we went the ER route this time.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please give him Silicea 200 in the morning and evening for 3 days and see how that affects.

One dose means
If the medicine is in pills form 2 pills. Don't touch pills with hand. Use cap of bottle to take pills.
If the medicine is in liquid dilution form, 1 drop in some 20 ml water. Sip up slowly.

Please follow homeo restrictions like no coffee, no raw onion/garlic, no strong perfumes, don't eat or drink anything within 30 minutes before or after taking medicine.
