Medorrhinum issue/question?

I've been working with my homeopath for years now and we believe we're down to the constitutional level. I've been dealing with chronic/recurrent viral infections since a bout of meningitis/west nile about ten years ago.

Since I'm hyper-sensitive, she's got me taking a wet dose (4 balls in 50 ml) taking 7 drops in the morning and 7 at night.

Since I started this dosing, I'm having a lot of drainage in my right ear, terrible sore throat, and have been experiencing emotional 'flashbacks' of traumatic life experiences. I also took one large dose (around 20 drops) and that's what really prompted the flashback. I'm back on the regular dose and am going steady on it. Although I just feel 'sick' again. My homeopath wants me to continue, but I feel like I'm spiraling both physically and emotionally. Then again, I also feel like I can't continue the way things were either since I keep getting sick every few weeks. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place. Any recommendations or insights?

I'm a little worn out and confused at the moment...

(I've also used Sulphur tissue salt and it helped a lot but never quite 'cured' the viral issue).

Thanks!
Maddie

P.S. When I feel 'virally' I also stop eating normally. So it becomes a real issue...

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Why is your homoeopath being so reckless with her dosing? This is quite unacceptable!

You need to demand she follow the guidelines we have for treating sensitive patients. Is she just making this up as she goes along?

It is not just enough to use water when making the dose. It is more complex than that. To reduce aggravation and make each dose easier to handle, you need to use 'Split dosing'. As Dr. Hahnemann outlined in our Organon of Medicine, the dose needs to be broken down or split into smaller parts, so that sensitive patients do not get harmed.

Dr. Luc Du Schepper has done a lot of work on clarifying the use of Split Dosing. You can go to his site here to read about it.

http://www.drluc.com/lecture-two.html

I will also give my typical instructions for split dosing.

INSTRUCTONS FOR SPLIT DOSING

Firstly, you need to create a separate dosing bottle. Get a bottle with a dropper, 15-30mls in size, and fill it with a mixture of water and alcohol (5 parts to 1 part). Dissolve 2-4 granules or 2-4 drops of the medicine you bought from the pharmacy into this mixture. Your doses will be made from this bottle.

Hit the bottle firmly against the palm of your hand, or another elastic surface like a book. It should be a firm hit not a tap. 2 hits is enough to begin with, and should not be increased unless it is clear that it is needed. The water in this bottle will 'remember' the number of times you have hit it, so that subsequent doses will be stronger (necessary to overcoming the resistance of your disease).

Place 1 drop into an amount of water - I may start with anything from 1/4-1 full cup (62ml-250ml) depending on the sensitivity of the patient. Stir thoroughly and take 1 teaspoon into the mouth. Throw the rest of the cup away.

This is one dose. Repeat doses would be started from the 2 hits on the bottle.

Each step of this process can be adjusted to reduced aggravation or to increase the effect of the medicine. In order to be able to do this, it is important to measure each step (count the hits, the drops, measure the water etc).

So in your case the various steps should be looked at and altered to ensure you are not suffering from the use of the remedy. It is reprehensible to continue dosing a patient who is suffering without trying to adjust the dosage when you know they are hypersensitive.

Thanks for your post. She actually did follow the process outlined here for preparing the dose. My apologies for not writing it out clearly. And for many years, she's been very good at dosing appropriately based on my sensitivities.

In this situation, I am, however, having some trouble. Is the trouble an indication that it's working? Or does it indicate I ought to be pulling back. She thinks that in a few days this will even out... I'm just not sure I can 'tough it out' til then. Do you have any recommendations or insights here?

Thanks again for your time.

She is overdosing you - 20 drops, 7 drops, night and day doses - it is too much. This needs to be addressed first, then you can look at other issues (like the remedy being wrong). This information on dosing should either have been taught, or it is easily accessible on the internet.

You should be using a dosing bottle in which pillules have been dissolved once only. You do not use any pillules again but that same bottle. Only ONE or TWO hits of the bottle should be done. ONE drop only should be placed into water. The amount of water needs to be adjusted too. For sensitive patients that teaspoon needs to be taken out and placed into another cup, and possibly another cup, and another, and another. For my ultrasensitive patients I may dilute the remedy into 5 full cups of water this way.

Frequency also needs to be adjusted. ONE dose is almost always enough for hypersensitive patients. You may wait weeks, or even months, before repeating the dose. In fact the simillimum (the perfectly matched remedy) does not need much repeating. One dose needed at long intervels is a key characteristic of the simillimum.

Is she doing all this? Has the dose been reduced further and further until you do not notice the reaction? If not, she is not doing enough.

If after modifying the dose you still suffer, then perhaps something else needs to be considered. The remedy may only be a partial similar, and its non-similar aspects are actually causing provings. The remedy may be palliating or even suppressing your symptoms, which drives the disease in further, and causes the vital force to react even more strongly by producing symptoms.

Homoeopathy is a science, it is methodical. When something happens in a case that is not what you intended, you need to work through it systematically to uncover the obstacle. Dosage is first, Potency is next, then consider the Remedy itself. Search for tissue changes, history of suppression by medical drugs - these things also may cause severe aggravations.

As of now, it seems that we're not approaching it this way. And in all honesty, I'm really confused. I've struggled with my health on and off for a long time too and don't know what to do next.

Do you have success working with hyper-sensitive patients with chronic/long-term health issues? I'm ready for a cure and am not sure how to get there...
