Social Anxiety

From Helptobetter [Log on to view profile]on 2011-08-26

Hello All,

I am writing this email with at most distress. My objective is to seek homeopathic advise from all practicing members to this problem.

Issue

I have social anxiety disorder. To simplify, I have broken down my problem in order to enable you to have as much information as possible:

Occasion:

The anxiety attacks occur during key events.

Key events such as telephonic interviews, face to face interviews, or in a group asked to introduce myself or when I have to interact with someone who has bullied or spoken in harsh words, when in a small gathering it's my turn to say something, doing presentation etc. The list is endless, in summary, "when I am in the center and have to talk".

Problem:

The moment I come to know or the slightest inclination of a key event, my anxiety level goes up. The following are the attacks that I go through;

(a) depressive mood. I hate to talk to anyone until the event is complete

(b) As the date gets closer, my mind is extremely pre-occupied with the thought how I am going to cope up on the D day. This means I am unable to concentrate on key aspects.

(c) On the D-Day. I get headaches, shoulder pain, nausea, very high heart rate, sweating and trembling voice. On one occasion during interview I had to say, "I am nervous" and took a pause to continue. Thereafter it was all a collapse

On one occasion, in a meeting room with five people, my friend introduced me to all and said he is expert on this particular subject and he will talk us through; there it started with all the above attacks and further encountered breathlessness. Just couldn't talk at all. Further, it's always evident from my face that I am stressed out

Analysing my problem, I see that I have very low self confidence, and the panic attacks comes very often when i feel that the person to whom I am going to talk to is a person at higher level or my belief that he is more knowledgeable than me.

I am very self conscious. I am a very pessimistic person!!!.

Impact

This issue is impacting big time with my career progression. I don't participate in group meetings and the fear that I may be asked some questions or I have to ask questions.

I am unable to progress even though I know and others have confirmed to me that I am very good at work.

As far as I am concerned, this is the only thing that's impending my career progression.

I may be getting a career change option in the near future; however, the very thought that (a) this opportunity may require lots of presentations and speaking in group gathering and (b) the fear of how I will perform in all these circumstances is literally making me not to go ahead with this.

I am going through a severe anxiety issues and not sure how I go this. There is a phase in my career I had gone through bullying from a bad boss and probably that has impacted me. Having said, I was always a shy kid.

Advise

After reading books and also practicing other techniques, I am not finding a solution. My humble request you to all esteemed members, please suggest me the best possible homeopathic remedy for this.

Happy to provide you with further information.

Looking forward to all your constructive advise.

Please take three doses of Lycopodium 200 as follows and report back after 15 days (only 3 doses in 15 days).

day 1 morning
1st dose

day 1 evening
2nd dose

day 2 morning
3rd dose

One dose means
If the medicine is in pills form 4 pills. Don't touch pills with hand. Use cap of bottle to take pills.
If the medicine is in liquid dilution form, 3-4 drops in some 20 ml water. Sip up slowly.

Please follow homeo restrictions like no coffee, no raw onion/garlic, no strong perfumes, don't eat or drink anything within 30 minutes before or after taking medicine.

Take 4+4+4 drops each in 1/4 cup of water for 3 times a day
2. take 6 pills of Gelsemium-200 at bedtime
3. Learn a technique of 'Dhyan-Dharana' Practice it at least for 20 to 30 minutes every day early morning before starting of the day.

Please don't implement both the suggestions at the same time. You may proceed to another if the one you implemented first fails.

Lycopodium clav is same as lycopodium. i suggested 200 potency.

Re: Social AnxietyFrom Helptobetter [Log on to view profile] on 2011-09-21
Hello Dr Kadwa,

I have completed 15 days since taking Lycopodium 200.

I tried to analyse what changed for since taking this medication.

There were two occassions when there was a discussion about a presentation that I may had to do. There was some discomfort still I felt when however the intensity was lower. The heart rate wasn't that high and kept calm listening to it. Fortunately or unfortunately the presentation event didn't happen.

On that day when I came back home I was just thinking on this subject and my mind was focused on what might happen!. The next day morning I suddenly got up from bed something like 4am on this very thought.

On the second situation I met someone at very high level and it was my turn to introduce. When I started, was fine, but suddenly became self conscious and was in the brink of situation of breathlessness. However, I took slight pause and went on. At that time I still had a fast heart beat.

In overall, I would think there is slight improvement compare what I was before.

Is there anything else you would want me to explain to you.

Can I know what I should hereafter?

Dear Dr.Kadwa,

I think I should bring this to your attention;

You had advised me to take 3 doses; dose-1 - day 1 morning ; dose-2 day evening and dose - 3 day 2 morning.

I made a mistake, I took three times a day, morning, afternoon and evening.

Is this a problem!!!, I am worried about this now

It is not definitely your fault and my apologies.

Happy to follow your further instructions to the "T"

It doesn't matter if you have taken three doses in one day instead of one and half days.

You should repeat single dose of Lycopodium 200 whenever there is a significant relapse in your symptoms.

Please procure the following Bach Flower Remedies as 5-10 ml dilutions. These remedies are available at a homeopathic pharmacy.

1. Cherry Plum
2. Crab Apple
3. Mimulus

Please procure 30 ml bottle filled with blank globules from a homeopathy pharmacy.

Add some 1 ml of each of the above flower remedies to the black globules and medicate them.

Please take 2 pills of the composite flower remedy thrice a day for 15 days and report back.

Re: Social AnxietyFrom Helptobetter [Log on to view profile] on 2011-09-25
Dear Dr Kadwa,

YOu are suggesting me to take Lycopodium 200 only on need. Am I right?

Will this ensure I can get rid of the anxiety for ever.

I will try the flower remedies as u suggested.

And will report back.

Kindest Regards

Re: Social AnxietyFrom kadwa [Log on to view profile] on 2011-09-26
Yes. You should take Lycopodium only on need.

Please read my posts on the breathing exercises called as Kapalbhati Pranayam and Anulom Vilom Pranayam by following the links given below. Please practise these pranayams regularly for half an hour preferably in a garden early in the morning. You may practise at any other convinient time. The only restriction that you have to follow is not to do these exercises within 4 hours after meals. You can have meals not within 15 minutes after finishing these exercises.

You should be soon free from social anxiety on doing the breathing exercises regularly.

Re: Social AnxietyFrom Helptobetter [Log on to view profile] on 2011-09-26
Dear Dr Kadwa,

I will defnitely put in practice the exercises you had suggested.

In the meanwhile, could you please suggest me where can I buy blank globules/pellets.

Many thanks

Best Regards

Re: Social AnxietyFrom kadwa [Log on to view profile] on 2011-09-27
If you go to exclusive shops of big homeo pharmas, you won't get the globules.
But you should get it at a non-exclusive homeopathy shop. Generally they will give a 30 ml bottle filled with globules. Or you may have to buy 100 gm globules and bottles separately.

Re: Social AnxietyFrom Helptobetter [Log on to view profile] on 2011-09-27
Dear Dr.Kadwa,

I have managed to obtain blank globules. I received them in 7gm bottle.

Am I right in understanding that i need to add 1ml each of the flower remedies suggested directly to the bottle.

Do i need to leave it for sometime before consuming?

Many thanks as ever

Best Regards

Re: Social AnxietyFrom kadwa [Log on to view profile] on 2011-09-28
If it is a 7 gm bottle, just one drop of each flower remedy i.e. in all 3 drops are sufficient. Just put three drops, shut the bottle, shake it vigorously and use it after 2 minutes.

Re: Social AnxietyFrom Helptobetter [Log on to view profile] on 2011-10-08
Hello Dr.Kadwa,

I started to take the medication as prescribed. However, I am not feeling that comfort when I was taking Lycopodium.

The other day I was supposed to be meeting a new person and discuss on a particular aspect. The thought itself raced my mind upto think on what if I say something wrong and strated to have increased heart beats.

Just before the meeting I took lycopodium to calm down and luckily all things went well.

I am doing the right thing taking the current medication.

Appreciate your advise.

Best Regards

Hello Dr Kadwa,

Any alternate medication, I should take? I am getting nervous again.

Should I continue to take lycopodium. Instead of as and when to daily!!!

Best Regards

Ram Iyer

Re: Social AnxietyFrom kadwa [Log on to view profile] on 2011-10-13
Lycopodium should not be taken daily. If a homeopathic remedy is taken daily it may lead to proving effects.
You may not know whether it is anxiety or it is due to taking Lyc daily.
If you are a perfectionist you may take a single dose of Arsenicum Alb 200 and see how that affects.
Gelsemium 200 is also a good remedy for anticipatory anxiety or performance anxiety.
If your anxiety makes you run away Argentum Nitricum 200 may also help you.
If there is too much of work pressure Nux Vomica 200 may also help.
Please go through these remedies and take an appropriate decision.
No remedy should be taken daily. You should take only three doses and then wait and watch.
