son addicted to opiates

Hi, trying to help my 20-yr-old son who's been doing heroin for last few months and had done painkillers before that. He wants to quit, but not real cooperative with us as we've buckled down to watch him, prevent things, help him, etc.
-has used suboxone off and on
-smokes cigarettes daily and moreso when hasn't used
-alcohol use, can drink a lot at once without effect, he claims
-had blood tested and nutritional supplements prescribed, but sporadic in taking them
-tried Medorrhinum 200c (homeopath prescribed)
-I had tried NuxV in different potencies at various times in last year...most recently 200c twice in one day
-Had tried Phos 10M last month
-For most of his life he has been opppositional, irritable in the morning (or afternoon when he wakes up), has trouble falling asleep-needs the TV on, wakes in middle of night, sleeps with mouth open
-for several months has complained of having trouble swallowing (food only)
-likes spicy foods, sweet foods, ice water (drinks often)

Am eager to find something to help him quit for more than a day but am clueless about potencies and frequency of doses. Thanks for any help!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I have treated a number of patients with addictions like this. It is a very difficult situation requiring 100% co-operation from the person - and even then there will be many pitfalls during treatment that must be handled with skill, compassion, and very often a firm hand as well.

There are a few things I have learned over the 20 years of practice when dealing with people with drug addictions -

1. If they are not fully aware and committed to the process of selecting and using homoeopathic medicines, chances for success is very low.

2. If they are not part of a program that offers them support in a non-judgemental way, chances for success is very low.

3. If they continue to use during treatment, chances for success are very low.

4. There is not one magic remedy to solve the addiction. The addiction is simply a manifestation of all the problems in that person's life, a culmination of all their suffering. Only with deep case-taking can one get to the core of this problem, often requiring passing through a number of traumatic layers.

5. There needs to be a way to monitor their behaviour, so that they do not simply pretend to comply with treatment. So they need to be ok with this (many are not because they are secretly continuing to use).

Without full commitment and a firm support structure (that they will use) when the aggravations on the remedies come, the person will often bust (go back to drug use if they stopped) or go right off the rails (if they are still using), which can damage their confidence quite severely.

It is a tough road, they have often been amongst my most difficult clients to manage, and have taken a disproportionate amount of time and attention. But it can be done.

I am reporting you to the moderator. Your behaviour towards me is becoming rude.

I do not want to treat you. Please leave me alone and stop posting in those threads that have nothing to do with you. Stop asking for help from me, stop creating new identities on this forum to trick me into answering you, and stop butting into discussions to talk about yourself.

You are not my patient and I want nothing to do with you.

Thank you, D. Kempson. From what I'm experiencing, I think you're right about the need for the person's full cooperation. Only it's like a catch-22. If they weren't addicted, maybe they would cooperate. Anyway, we'll keep trying, and I am glad to hear 'it can be done.'
