what do you mean by severe symptoms?

by 'severe symptoms' I mean extremely red and inflamed areas of the skin, which are raised from the rest of the surrounding skin. Also, large patches of dry skin when the inflammation subsides combined with large flakes of dead skin from the scalp and face. I know this is SD and I have suffered for 8 years almost. Any advice?

I would also like any help or advice on SD. It is driving me mad too despite being on Protopic from consultant, which is not without its side effects and doesn't settle SD very quickly. I have been searching the internet today and come up with your site. I am told it is stress related (started last year after the death of my niece) and is localised to my face. I feel I could scratch my skin off!
Help.

I understand how stressful it can be to suffer this condition, and that stress makes it worse!! Vicious circle??!

Well, some things that can certainly help are as follows:

Take regular exercise (stress reliever)
Eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg
Drink lots of water
Drink LESS alcohol
Try not to use gels/hairsprays etc
Keep a range of treatment creams/shampoos etc and alternate their usage so you don't get used to any 1 type and therefore lose effectiveness

I know these may sound blindingly obvious but combined they go quite a long way to keeping the problem less severe. Hope this helps.
