Urgent Help Required - Depression

Hi, I am writing on behalf of my dad who has suffered with depression for years but which recently got much worse resulting in a suicide attempt last year. Since then he has tried many of the prescribed medications by his GP but to no avail. He has decided to come off medication all together and has good days and bad days but is finding the low days difficult to control without medication. he is interested in alternative methods of therapy but as anyone with depression will understand, lacks the motivation to research it, hence my appeal. Obviously, being his daughter it is difficult to know exactly what he is going through but when down, he tends to get agitated about small things like something not being put away in the correct place, he often becomes a bit of a recluse, not wanting to go out and often taking to his bed for days. any help would be greatly appreciated. sophie

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Dear Sophie,

I don't know why the GP attending to your dad was unable to track the condition of your dad becoming worse. Normally cronic depression will be dealt by psychiatrists with medication along with counselling.

It's the responsibility of familymembers to find out the root cause. Untill unless root cause is addressed problem prevails.

Also as far I know the severe cases like your dad's should be dealt by the physician personally. Even in the case of homeo, as often high potencies are required at initial stages.

Please don't rely on the forum medications. Atleast for the initial recovery of your dad. Whether you opt for homeo or alternate method contact your near by professional.

Don't delay.

All the best.

In the USA, there are people available that take charge, with the permission of the family, for one that has lost themselves to the degree that it is obviously a no win situation.

I cannot remember the discriptive phrase at this moment, but these are trained health workers that come to the home to try to communicate and evaluate the situation for the good of the patient. They interceed.

IF the patient is a danger to himself (or others) they have the authority to call the police and have the person taken to a hospital for a complete evaluation. They can hold them for 72 hours legally.

Then after the evaluation, all concerned decide the next steps. He definately needs a psychiatrist immediately.

They are like a go-between the police and hospital to save a person that can no longer save themselves.

Call a hospital and explain the situation and inquire of these services. If the person that answers does not know get the psychiatry department and ask them. Or inquire of the police. Get your own information and get help for your father before tragedy takes him from you.

I have knowledge of this with others. And the situation became worse before better, but in both cases, it was definately BETTER as time passed.

Help was found before suicide took the person and left the family in extreme grief and guilt.

This is not easy. It will mess up his world for awhile, and you will feel guilty. Let it go. It would be worse to do nothing.

Bless you and your family in this time of need. Sabra

It seems that your dad is nutritionally deficient. There are a host of common sense basics that he should be incorporating into his daily regimen. Essential fatty acids are very important. They feed the brain. I would look into fish oil during the summer (Carlson is an excellent, clean brand), dose at 3 capsules a day. Switch to Cod Liver Oil during the winter. I also have recommended a product from France to my patients who are depressed called "Stabilium 200". It is also sold under the name "Adapton." It is the oil from the blue fish and was used by warriors in France hundreds of years ago to off-set the depression felt by men returning from battle. Follow directions on the box for dose.

"Good, healthy" fats in the diet are so vital with this kind of depression. Trust me, I've helped many people through the dark night's of their souls and they needed that support from good fats to move through. I recommend rice bran oil, coconut oil (lauric acid) and pumpkin seed oil.

As has already been mentioned on this Forum of late, MAKE SURE he is not consuming poisons such as aspartame, food dyes/colorings, known allergens or drugs that can have depressive/suicidal side effects. There have been many stories of people suffering from depression who get a drug for their ails and end up committing suicide or homicide because of the drug's effect on their brain.

While I have no way to determine any in-depth history of your father (the thing that makes homeopathy so focused), I can say that I've had relatively good results with using Lithium OROTATE on depressed and anxious patients. THIS IS NOT THE DRUG LITHIUM, BUT RATHER, THE NATURAL MINERAL. You do NOT have to have any monthly kidney tests done when taking Lithium Orotate. He could start with one 5 mg. dose in the morning and work up to another dose of 5 mg. at night.

Again, it's so difficult to determine what your father needs and what will pull him out of his self-destructive nature. I do believe that homeopathy can and will create a breakthrough for those who suffer due to genetically charged imbalances. It's just that without having a clearer picture of who he is and when this all presented, we are walking blindly into the night.
