This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Well, yesterday and today the running nose is worse. Cough is worse also, and this morning she was a little hot so I think very light fever. Any suggestions?
We were prescribed a drug that will dry her up and reduces coughing reflex but it will not cure only eleviate symptoms temporarily

I am happy to help you out. Do you understand what kind of information you need to give to a homoeopathy to aid in a sucessful prescription? You should probably follow these links to familiarize yourself with the homoeopathic process.

brisbanehomoeopath, Thank you very much for your reply and the links. I read those Q&A. I'm a little familiar with homoepathy and would answer any qyuestions. Please let me know how to get started.

Here is some information about my daughter.
Female, 19 months old.
Developed runny nose late October which doesn’t go away. In the last month, it got a little better and then worse again.
We saw her pediatric doctor one month ago as she was running fever of about 102F and there was discharge from her ears. Dr. said that it is possibly an ear infection but might be just ear wax. We did not give her antibiotics and ears cleared on its own. She is also teething currently. She is cutting bottom first molars. I think it adds to her discomfort. She is usually a happy and energetic child but also gets cranky episodes and becomes clingy. I think she is not feeling well. Since she is not talking yet I can only judge visually. She has blocked nose that mostly runs clear. Twice she had yellowish-greenish discharge. Sometimes her eyes look puffy and sometimes i can see bluish circles under her eyes. She also has bad breath that I attributed to teething. It is not always there, but on many days.
She is usually a great eater but some days in the last month she will refuse food and eat only fruit or berries.
From life changes, she started a part-time daycare in mid-October. She does not protest when I drop her off there but is very withdrawn in her behavior.
Other things that might matter is that she has a habit of touching her face to self-soothe. For example when falling asleep. Also she often wants to touch my bellybutton. she will come over and ask for 'Tummy'. She also likes to pick at it to calm down.

Please let me know what other information i need to provide.
Thank you

Ok still probably not quite enough to go on. Any symptom should be expanded as much as possible in these ways - What happens, Where does it happen, When does it happen, How does it happen, What aggravates it, What triggers it, What makes it better, What makes it go away, What else occurs at the same time?

Describe her nature more now that she is sick - I am more interested in the change that has occured since she first got sick. All sorts of observations and fine details help here.

What other kinds of health issues has she had since birth?

Describe more on withdrawn.

How is her sleep?

Does she perspire much? If so where and when?

What odour does she or her discharges have?

Describe this picking at the face more.

What is the smell of the bad breath?

What was her birth like?

What was the pregnancy like? Please describe any ailments you had, and your mood or stresses during this time?

What kinds of illnesses appear to run in the family?

I appreciate your patience with me. I'm trying to be more detailed. Please let me know if there is anything else i need more details around.

Here are my answers:

Describe her nature more now that she is sick - I am more interested in the change that has occurred since she first got sick. All sorts of observations and fine details help here.
First we noticed clear runny nose at the end of October. Her mood was fine and she behaved as usual. One day she came from daycare and developed fever. I attributed that to usual cold. At that time she had been very tired and only wanted to lie down and sleep. In three days she was her usual self with runny nose.
She also developed cough caused by nasal discharge down her throat. She will be a chirpy and happy child during day with occasional cough. At night aftger about 4 hours of sleep she develops has a coughing bout for 30 mins to 1 hour and then settles and sleeps again. In the morning she will try to cough up the mucous again and twice she threw up doing that.
The nasal congestion got progressively worse and she would cough more and more during day. We took her to pedi a couple of times and last Wednesday the doctor found ear infection in her right ear. Strangely enough, my daughter did not seem to have any ear pain or ear discomfort.
From her behavior it seemed like she has tooth ache as she puts her hands and various objects in her mouth.
Another thing I noticed is that she started to fall more. She has been walking since 11 mos of age and very stable for a long time but recently she seemed more off balance and would run into furniture or fall more than earlier.

She is cries more, especially when we do not understand what exactly she wants. For example, she’ll sit down for dinner and when we serve her, she would break down crying as if this is not what she expected. She would refuse food but always loves fruit, grapes, oranges, kiwi. Her appetite is best in the morning and gets worse towards the end of day. She might go to bed without dinner.
Still loves her milk bottle and never refuses it.

As of yesterday evening, her mood improved significantly. She laughs more. This night slept without the coughing bout.

What other kinds of health issues has she had since birth?
She was a very healthy child overall. We only visited doctor for regular monthly check ups, no sick visits until now. In infancy, before 3 mos of age, she cried a lot, possibly because of gas or reflux but this is just a guess, she has never been diagnosed with anything.

Describe more on withdrawn.
In day care she would just stand to the side and observe other kids play, never join them. She will never initiate interaction with other child but reciprocates when other baby wants to play with her. Usually just wants to be on the sidelines. Loves to sit in teacher’s lap during story time.
Again, this is not typical of her at home at all. At home with any kids visiting she is interacting a lot, talking, sharing toys, etc. In day care, the teacher said that she never says a word while at home she is very talkative and has a large vocabulary for her age.

How is her sleep?
Sleeps well at night. Goes to bed at 7:30-8 and sleeps till about 6-6:30 in the morning. She might wake up for a minute but settles back without us going in.

Does she perspire much? If so where and when?
Does not perspire at home. She was sweating a lot during nap in daycare so that her hair and shirt will be wet. We attributed to that she was sleeping on a plastic mat. Started putting a blanket under and she is not perspiring as much.

What odour does she or her discharges have?
No odor from nose discharge. Very clear and no smell.

.

Describe this picking at the face more.
She will pick at any bite, scratch, pimple till it bleeds, mostly when she is falling asleep and reading a book. Even if there is not anything on her face to pick at, she will just touch her cheeks.

What is the smell of the bad breath?
Occasionally her breath smells like from a person with bad dental hygiene, stale and rotten smell. I noticed only when her teeth are cutting through, otherwise no smell

What was her birth like?
Birth was very long, more than 24 hours. I did not use pain medication initially but at the end gave in. She was born healthy. I was 8 days past my due date. Overall labor was tiring but not traumatic at all.

What was the pregnancy like? Please describe any ailments you had, and your mood or stresses during this time?
Pregnancy was easy. The ailments I had - bad skin reaction around my eyes that was attributed to make up allergy first time. Had to take steroid medication to cure. Recurred several months later although I was not using make up anymore. Had to take steroids again. Then recurred just 3-4 weeks later. Took prednisone again. Overall was very happy and highly energetic during pregnancy except when had skin breakouts. At those times felt sad, and guilty about taking steroids when pregnant.

What kinds of illnesses appear to run in the family?
I have seasonal allergies. Mostly runny / congested nose and itchy eyes, scratchy throat. My mom, grandma had hypertension. My parents and I had thryroid issues (both of my parents thyroid was removed), mine is monitored. All hormone levels are fine, I have a few thyroid nodules. This is due to exposure to Chernobyl nuclear reactor explosion in late 1980s. I lived in Belarus at that time.

Dear Bublik,

A couple of days ago, you posted as following.

'Please let me know if anyone has advise? My daughter was just diagnosed with a right ear infection and give antibiotics prescription. any alternatives?'

I have been feeling for the child and considering this therpay session may go for months....

I have a great respect for brisbanehomoeopath, I am sure he and you know the best actions to be taken for the child. But, for her suffering since one month, the following remedies come to mind, please consider.

1. SAMBUCUS 30C, 3 times a day, for one week.

2. Mephitis 30C, 3 times a day, for one week.

I hope and pray that you guys will not mind my suggestion as I have no problem with the on going questions and answers.

Many many prayers for the child.

Regards
Nawaz

I do not know what is going on. Yesterday evening and this morning my daughter was in a perfect mood and this afternoon she again has fever and acts very tired. Wants to lie down.
I would really appreciate advice

Dear Bublik,

Sorry to know about the little poor girl what she is going thru? I believe, she caught pretty bad cold and did not get timely help. Her immune system appear to be pretty weak at the moment. I am sure you are giving her Children's TYLENOL as usual.

Please get the remedies ASAP. With the help, blessings and mercies of our creator, she will be healthy soon.

As you know, it is winter season now, it is easy to catch a cold even for young people. Please be patient, she will be OK.

With more prayers.

Regards
Nawaz

I am sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. My clinic is particularly busy at the end of each week, more so as christmas approaches.

I have analyzed the case and have an idea for another remedy if this treatment plan does not help. Your answers to my questions were quite helpful.

Keep us informed on how things go.

Dear Brisbanehomoeopath,

Great! if you have already worked out a correct remedy, then, I would strongly recommend to go with that?

Many prayers for you.

Nawaz

If Bublik has committed to your prescription Nawaz then she should stick with it.

As I am always saying, once someone chooses a treatment plan they should see it through. I am just saying that I have looked at the answers to my questions and have analyzed that. If there are any problems I am happy to give a third possible remedy.

Thank you both very much. I have not yet had a chance to purchase the medicine as it is not easily available in the area. Please suggest me both remedies and I will purchase both.
As I said my baby developed fever this afternoon after nap, refused food and slept. Her ears are more painful now and I see wax in them. We gave antibiotic as she seems not to be able to recover without it. She also had a bowel movement in the evening which is not typical for her.
Please post me the name of the remedy and I will purchase it

I also wanted to ask your opinion on ferrum pho. Will it help with fever and ear infection?
Also wanted to let you know that we gave the first dose of antibiotics.

In case of a running nose ...some simple rules to follow:
Discharge from nose:

When discharge is yellowish -green and thick like rope strings...Kali Bich. 30
It drops from upper portion of throat as well in thick lumps.

When discharge is whitish....like white of an egg....cough caused due to errors in diet...like eating creamy foods/ oily food ....then Pulsatilla 30 c
The person is usually thirst less.

When discharge is thin and watery and nose runs like a leaking tap....the person wants to drink water in small sips every half hour.....then arsenic alb 30c

Try the most suitable...if after 3 doses ...you fail to see any improvement...stop that med.

If none of these help...go see a homeopath in your neighborhood.

It would not be appropriate to mix homoeopathy and antibiotics together. It is probably better to wait and see how the antibiotics fare - there could very well be an improvement which would be difficult to distinguish from the action of a remedy.

Once she has finished the course it would probably be prudent to give an update on her health to see how things have changed.

The remedy that appears suitable from the symptoms is Nat-mur. There were 3 main symptoms that I intially consider - Introverted, Carphology (picking at things), and Painlessness of usually painful complaints (or it could be seen as a kind of Stoicism for which Nat-mur is also known).

This brings up 5 remedies - Tarent, Ph-ac, Stram, Con, Nat-mur. Of those two I looked more closely at Ph-ac and Nat-mur. Phos-ac would have been my immediate choice based on the lowered vitality, desire to sleep, indifference to things they normally love, illness without fever etc

However I didn't feel it was intense enough for the exhauston of Phos-ac.

When looking more closely at Nat-mur what I find that suits your child is:-

Clinging
Puffiness around the eyes
Bluish discoloration around the eyes
Desire for fruit
Appetite wanting in the evening
Weeping at trifles
Rotten and stale odours
Scratching the skin until they bleed
Fluent coryza, which may change into stoppage of the nose
Thin watery discharges from the nose

Nat-mur children tend to be wallflowers, standing on the outside watching others socialize. They can have trouble speaking up, tend to remain silent and keep to themselves in social situations. This can in fact alternate with a strange loquacity but only when they feel safe with the people. Nat-mur people generally can be quite relaxed when they trust someone.

Thank you so very much! I believe it describes my child. I will continue with antibiotics and will update in on the condition. In he meanwhile I will buy nat-mur. Can you please clarify what strength? I might have to order it online.

Bublik last decade
200c I find to be a generally very suitable strength for children.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Thank you. I will definitely have to get it online as our local shop carries only 6c and 30c

Bublik last decade
It is fine to try 30c if that is what you can get - you can get 200c later if it is needed. Generally I find I have to go up to 200c in children's cases but 30c is fine to start with.

What do you think of Hyoscyamus Niger for my daughter? My husband consulted with another doctor and that's what he suggested.
Since she is still on antibiotics, I did not give her any homoepathic medicine yet. I'm getting a little confused with the variety of suggestions.
Thank you
