Acute ear infection please HELP!

My son- 4 years old has an extremely painful right ear. Doctor said it's very infected, he's put him on amox, but I want to try homeopathy first. Doc said it's okay to try and wait 2 days before giving the antibiotic.
He had a fever, highest point of fever was around 104. Now it's come down to 99-102. Fluctuating around there.
Only right ear is infected.
Ear is extremely sensitive to touch- especially the part behind the ear. He says pain comes down to the cheek, close to the chin. ALtho the ear is sensitive to touch, he is ameliorated by lying on it. He had a strange bowel movement yesterday- yellow and frothy.
He's got a cough and cold. Nose is blocked. When he blows his nose, nothing comes out.
At night in sleep, complained of itchy head.
He's normally a very hyper kid, but now energy is wiped out. He is very whiny, wants me to permanently sit next to him, even when he wants something to eat, and i get up to go get it, he gets upset.
If I get up, he complains of the pain, but if i'm sitting next to him, he seems to be alright.
When sick, his personality changes drastically- needs ALOT of attention.
Please help, I need something for the acute ear infection.

The most peculiar symptom is :-

Touch aggravates but hard pressure ameliorates.

This restricts the search to

Bryonia
China
Coloc
Ignatia
Lach
Plb

If I add in the symptoms :-

Company ameliorates
Complaining
Weakness with/from fever

This brings it down to

China
Ignatia
Plb

Based on your description I would prescribe China for him. Do you have this medicine or are you able to get it?

I would procure 200c.

He was constipated today and did not have a bowel movement. Still china 200c? Or plumbum? Yes i have a lot of meds, and if i don't have it, i can easily get it tomorrow morning.
MUCH THANKS.

China is a remedy for constipation too. This is how it appears in the repertory:-

Constipation, difficult stool, soft stool (major symptom)
Constipation, stool remains long in rectum with no urging
Constipation, ineffectual urging and straining
Constipation, difficult stool

Just give him one dose to begin with to assess the reaction. Hit the bottle twice, put 1 drop in 1/4 cup of water, stir thoroughly, give 1 teaspoon to him. Report back in 2-3 hours. I will keep checking in between clients.

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From karinamom [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-22
Okay I just gave him the medicine. He is trying to fall asleep (it's night here). I hope the medicine helps him sleep through. He has been really restless, crying out with pain. I will msg again if he wakes up for followup. If he sleeps through the night and is peaceful, should i give him the dose again in the morning?

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From brisbanehomoeopath [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-22
If he improves, and then he appears to relapse, you can repeat the remedy straight away without checking with me. I would say otherwise let me know what is happening before repeating the dose.

Too much might aggravate him, too little might not get him well. It's a narrow path :)

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From karinamom [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-22
I can't remember what time it was when i gave him the dose- i think around 9:30ish.. He was able to fall asleep, but it's almost 11 and he woke up crying out in pain. Let me know whats next.
Thanks! Karina

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From brisbanehomoeopath [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-22
Repeat straight away.

You can repeat as often as he needs.

Once he has had 3 doses if there is no obvious improvement we will need to do something else.

Was there any improvement from this dose?

Make sure you hit the bottle twice. It might be necessary to increase the number of hits to increase the strength of the dose.

His demeanor is a bit better, but pain is a lot still.
Today he's doing something different, every time it's hurting he is using his finger to press it, not dig it, just press it. (The last few days he couldn't stand it being touched, but better lying on it).
I really appreciate your help.
Thank you so much.

Not sure how relevant this is, but he just had a very massive, very normal, bm. Still pain.

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From brisbanehomoeopath [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-23
Potency sounds like it could be a problem - I don't suppose you have 1M available?

If not, increase the hits on the bottle to 4 and repeat again.

There is a reasonable time difference here, your last 2 posts were while I was asleep. My day starts now I will keep checking in.

Can you tell me how exactly his demeanor is changed?

Is the pain the same?
Is he still laying on the ear to relieve it?
Is his fever the same?
Has he started sweating yet?
Is his nose still blocked?
Is his head still itching?
Is his energy still wiped out?

Bris,

I am literally laughing as I type this, ear pain worse from slight touch and better from lying on it.

Has to be only one remedy :), a strange con-incidence that this remedy keeps coming up in the last few days, hehe

Drastic improvement has been noted. It is 3pm here and this is the situation.
No more crying, whining. On and off activity, goes from getting up and doing stuff, to suddenly wanting to rest.. as opposed to just resting and sitting. Appetite seems to be coming back. Thirst- seems to be back too. Occasional complaints of ear pain. When I ask him how severe the pain is, he says less, but still bothering him. Will continue the medicine until I hear back from you.
Thanks so much!! I am also taking him to his ped tomorrow to get him to see in his ear and assess the situation since I didn't end up giving him the antibiotics. Thanks so much!!

Although going by the recent report, it might not be needed :)

Seems like China is starting to work.

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From karinamom [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-23
My husband is picking up the China 1m for me. He is not lying on it to relieve it, just resting on the sofa when the pain comes. Fever is down, haven't checked seems to be low like around 100. Sweating only takes place in sleep, so will see about that tonight. He's not crying about the pain, just complaining that it really hurts him.
No more itchiness in the head. Energy not 100% back, maybe 50%- on and off. Nose not blocked. He tried to blow it earlier, and clear liquidy mucus came out.
Aggravation is mostly at night- the worst of it- after 11pm. I have china 1m in pellets, will that do? Doseage and frequency? Or should i use the china 200 and hit the bottle 4 times?

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From brisbanehomoeopath [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-23
Actually it appears he is on the mend. I would stop all medication for the moment, but having China 1M around for him might be a good idea anyway. If we are lucky it will suit many of his acutes or even go deeper. If not, at least we were able to get him through this particular crisis, and hopefully without resorting to anitbiotics.

If the situation flares up, or he relapses, repeat the 200c with 4 hits. If this doesn't work make up the 1M as you did the 200 and give one dose only of that.

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From brisbanehomoeopath [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-23
Some cases are nice and clear aren't they Sameer, if you know what is peculiar :)

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From karinamom [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-23
He complained of pain a little while back, and i gave him one dose of 200c with the 4 hits. He hasn't complained of pain since and seems to be doing just fine. Thank you so much!!!!
You've been so great helping me out.
Can you help me with my daughter?
Should I post again with a different heading?

She's 1 year and a half and a few weeks ago was diagnosed with double ear infection. Funny enough, i went to the doc because she had a very hard cough- barking really loud. I didn't realize her ears were infected. He said, her chest is clear but ears are not. So he prescribed antibiotics, and in haste i gave it to her. She did not improve much. Her cough lingered for 2 more weeks. Last week i took her for a followup, he said there is fluid in her ears, and her chest is still clear. Last friday she had a case of laryngitis.
Voice came back by sunday. I gave her kali mur 6x which helped her nose to leak out.
Her cough only comes at night, when she's about to fall asleep, it wakes her up. She wakes up every night at 2 am with cough.
Her left nostril has more mucus running down.
I'm not sure with what i did was right or wrong, i have given her one dose of allium cepa 30c earlier today.
She loves outdoors, and is healthier outside, sleeps better in the car.
Will take her to the doc tomorrow for him to assess her ears as well.
She is generally prone to catching ear infections, this is her 3rd one. She sleeps without covering.
Thanks so much.
Karina

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From sameervermani [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-23
Yes indeed, David:)

Lach is the only medicine which has this sensitivity to touch of the ear and and yet amelioration from lying on it. If Chin doesn't work, please keep that in mind very strongly. However, I agree with your suggestion given the current status.

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From brisbanehomoeopath [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-23
Sameer I looked at the general quality rather than the local quality (as per the Boenninghausen approach) to arrive at China.

As you know, in acutes several remedies can help the patient as long as they all fit whatever is peculiar.

I try never to pronounce a case cured until all symptoms are gone, and the patient has been well long enough to make sure it was not merely palliated. But so far this looks like a good response, and all within the time frame I would expect for an acute.

Karina, would you mind making a different post? It can get quite confusing following several cases in one place :)

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From brisbanehomoeopath [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-23
Also, notice the difference that 4 hits on the bottle made over 2? This has been my experience in clinic over the last few years, and I am indebted to Dr. Luc du Schepper for elaborating on the system of dosage in the 5th and 6th editions of the Organon. This has made a huge difference to my ability to manage both acute and chronic cases.

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From karinamom [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-23
Ok i made a different post. Quick question, is china the same as china rubra? That's the 1m i have.
With the 1m, i just have the pellets, so put 1 pellet in a 1/4 cup of water, stir, and one tspn is one dose?

Re: Acute ear infection please HELP!From brisbanehomoeopath [Log on to view profile] on 2010-11-23
China rubra is not the same as China officialis (the remedy known as Chin), although they are related plants. I don't have any experience with Chin-r.

I would not give him that remedy, I am not certain what effect it would have.

If he is now convelescing don't repeat the remedy unless he relapses or clearly gets stuck. If you do need to repeat only use the 200c of China Off.
