Herpes Zoster

The common name for this complaint is 'shingles'. It is ascribed to a virus identical with that responsible for or, at any rate, associ¬ated with chicken-pox. The tissues mainly involved are the roots of a spinal or cranial nerve, and an eruption of little blisters on a red base appears along the line of distribution of the nerve affected. This may be on the trunk or head, or indeed anywhere on the body. The appearance of the rash is preceded by very severe neuralgic pain and general malaise. The latter usually clears up when the rash appears, but the pain sometimes is more persistent.
The ordinary treatment of this most distressing complaint is none too satisfactory, as evidenced by the large number of drugs listed for its palliation. Homoeopathic remedies of proven worth in allaying pain and aiding recovery (a few doses of 30, or 6 for a longer period) are:
APIS large blebs, much swelling, part affected burns and stings and cool applications afford relief.

ARSENICUM ALBUM confluent eruption, severe burning pain, great restlessness and anxiety, sleepless after midnight.
MBZKREUM very severe pain and itching; scratching causes burning sensation; brown scabs form.
RANUNCULUS BULBOSUS severe burning pain with much itching; WORSE touch, movement, taking food.
