No it does not necessarily mean the remedy is curative. It is one of the indicators that a remedy might be correct but the simillimum will address mental, emotional and physical problems as a whole. What order it does this in depends on many individual factor (eg. importance to the patient's survival, place in the hierarchy of the body, length of time the symptom has been around, degree of tissue change).
Nat-mur will cure any insomnia for which it is indicated. Emotional trauma is not a necessary part of a Nat-mur case.

It is hard to know for sure - some people let go of chronic symptoms in a few days, some will hold on to them for several months.
I expect to see changes occuring in all important areas within 3-4 weeks of taking/starting a medicine. These changes should be marked.
If they are not I will change the potency, the frequency of dosing, or the remedy itself, depending on what in particular has happened.
In the large majority of my cases, aggravation sets in within 1-3 days, improvement starts within 5-10 days. Most patients will level out from any particular dose at about 2-3 weeks.
I tend to use single doses of centesimial potencies, other kinds of dosing methods or potencies might have slightly different time frames.

Being controlled or dominated is not part of the essential conflict or problem of Nat-mur people, unlike Carcinosin.
The core of Nat-mur revolves around their sensitivity and inablity to let go of hurt.
In a situation where parents were controlling, Carcinosin become either the perfect child afraid to get reprimanded, or they become total rebels refusing to be anything their parents want.Carc children will repress their true feelings to survive such a situation, becoming almost unaware that they have them.
Nat-mur on the other hand is very sensitive and hurt by the way they are treated. They will harden up to protect themselves from this hurt, becoming tough and cold seeming on the outside while remaining very hurt and vulnerable on the inside. They will not show their feelings out of a fear of being hurt again. They do not repress them, they feel them very strongly, but they show a different face on the outside.
It is important to remember that the real situation you were in as a child NEVER decides your remedy for you. Remedies are not chosen on the events in your life, but the way you perceive them. Any remedy could be used for a person whose childhood was very controlled. Each remedy sees the situation differently.
There are 5000+ medicines, each one can be used in any real world situation, but the inner perceived situation decides which one.

Nat-mur could be one of the remedies considered yes. All the Natrums feel hurt very strongly - what they do with that hurt may decide which Natrum you need. Nat-mur holds on to it, cannot let it go, and they become antisocial. The hurt comes from betrayal very specifically, someone they trusted and loved lets they down, disappoints them and they cannot forget it. However they act in the outside world, such a betrayal makes them feel very alone, and they even cling on to this loneliness.

The remedy should not take that long - how long has it been?
Regardless of how good a remedy sounds, if it doesn't work it isn't right. Lots of times in clinic I have to let go of my 'good' ideas and look for the right remedy.
There are all sorts of issues around potency and dosage that need to be addressed to make sure you get the most out of your remedy. But if these fail then a favorite remedy must be abandoned in favor of the remedy the patient actually needs.

I don't really know your case so I cannot say with any confidence what all that means.
It certainly sounds like you are having difficulty around potency selection/tolerance. It could be that you have not had your remedy diluted in the best way for you perhaps?
If you are an ultrasensitive it is always difficult to manage remedy responses until you are closer to cured (when the sensitivity disappears).
