ITP - Advice Needed

I got diagnosed with ITP in May 2009 when my platelet count went as low as 2.
I was admitted into hospital and put on high dose prednisolone (steroids) which didn’t help increase my count. This was then followed by a series of other medications, dexamethasone, IViG, WinRho, and Vincristine. All of which didn’t really elevate my count.
My sister then suggested I meet a homeopath to discuss my condition.
The Homeopath gave me 200C of Crotalis Horridus which I took once during my consultation and kept the remaining on reserve unless needed.
I had purpora in my mouth after a week and the homeopath asked me to take another remedy.
My count slowly started increasing up to 16 within a space of 4 weeks.
My next blood test after a week showed my count had dropped again – this time to 11 so my homeopath asked me to take another tablet of crot h.
This third dose helped me greatly and my count gradually rose to 94 within a period of 5 months.
I then started exhibiting symptoms like bruising and purpora again and my count had dropped again to 19 – though I suspect it was lower as I had my blood test two weeks after the symptoms and within that time I took another tablet of Crot H.
I was put on a higher dose of Crot H which took my levels up to 53 in about 4 months.
Thereafter my levels having been dropping slowly and for the last 3 months they have been hovering slightly above or below 10.
I was given an even higher dose of Crot H which didn’t seem to help.
I was also given 200C of Lachesis which also hasn’t helped.
My last course of homeopathic treatment has been to take 200C of Crot H every 5 days, as this strength of Crot H has helped with my symptons, however my count remains low.

I've used the questionnaire from this forum to help build a profile of myself.

Patient ID: Sex: Age:
Male / 38 years

1. Describe your main suffering?
ITP – very low platelet count.
This means I have a tendency to bruise easily.
I may also get Petechia and purpura in my mouth (inside cheek, back of throat, inside gums and on tongue), and on arms if scratched or rubbed.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
I have mild eczema/psoriasis on some areas of my body – this is generally well managed and not really an issue.

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?
I’ve always kept myself healthy and fit by bike riding and frequenting the gym, doing sports, etc. This condition has meant that I’m no longer able to do the activities I enjoy which I find frustrating.
However at the same time I am optimistic that I will get over this and will have a high enough platelet count which will allow me to continue some of the activities that I used to do before.
I am very religious and have firm belief that all hardship and ease/comfort is from God, therefore I put my complete trust and reliance on Him.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst?
I feel a sense of anxiety and a feeling of being fragile, which make me extra cautious in ensuring that I’m not over exerting myself or putting myself in a position where I may be exposing myself to any risks.
Sometimes I will also feel tired even after a good nights sleep – normally this tiredness will be more noticeable during the mornings and late evenings.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
I was diagnosed with ITP in May 2009.
In December 2004 my Mother passed away. I was very close to her and although she was unwell for some time, her death was a surprise to the whole family. My faith helped me to come to terms with her death quickly and I focussed on ensuring that my family pulled through.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?
None

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same?
Can’t think of anything.

8. Do your think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?
I feel it may be related to stress.
My work has been quite stressful and demanding over the past 2-3 years.
9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?
I prefer the warmer climate as opposed to cold and wet weather conditions – I live in the UK where the weather is generally cold.
10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.
Optimistic, Moody, Caring, Loving, Strong, Helpful, Energetic, Modest, Quiet.
- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm?
I find thunderstorms exciting.
After a thunderstorm I feel that there is a general sense of calmness and tranquillity in the air.
- Do you like being consoled during your tough times?
I’m a private person and don’t really share my thoughts and feelings with anyone.
I don’t feel that I need to be consoled by anyone as I feel it shows my weakness.
I find consolation through my religion.
- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc?
No
- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless
weeping, talking to one self etc?
No
- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife?
I adore my family. I work from home so am actively involved with my children and the needs of the household.
I have a good relationship with my wife and we get on very well. She by nature is an anxious person who likes to get things done as soon as possible, whereas I’m more laid back and enjoy doing things to the best of my abilities but in my own time.
I enjoy the company of my friends, but don’t see them as often as I would like because they either have their own family commitments or because they live too far to easily meet.
11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly?
No
12. What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions?
I enjoy eating all types of fruit the most.
Sometimes I’ll crave the desire to eat ice-cream or chocolates.
I enjoy my meals and am particularly fond of fish, meat, chicken, pulses and beans.
The only thing I don’t like is the look of mushrooms, therefore I tend to stay away from them.

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive?
Normal (I aim for 8 glasses a day)
14. How is your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive?
Normal
15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?
No
16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs?
Generally I don’t sweat much during the day.
Even when I used to work out at the gym I didn’t sweat much.
However when I do sweat then it’s mainly on the head and back.
During the hotter seasons I get sweaty legs in the evening when I’m in bed.
17. How is your bowel movement and stool type?
Regular (daily – mainly in the mornings).
Stools are soft and formed.
18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?
I get to sleep within 15 minutes of lying down.
I mainly sleep facing the right and occasionally may end up sleeping on my front or back for short durations, but I would then correct myself and sleep towards the right again.
19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general?
Yes.
20. How do you think you are different from others, if at all?
I think that I maybe different to others by showing strong will and determination in reaching my goals. I like to think of myself as the ‘last man standing’ in situations.
I’m not fazed by upsets and will readily pick myself up and try again.
21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?
Since being diagnosed I’ve taken:
Prednisolone
Dexamethasone
