The ABC Homeopathy Forum

6 year old boy with learning difficulties

Hello, my 6 1/2 year old son has problems at school. He doesn't pay much attention, is sometimes just daydreaming and often doesn't seem to understand what he is asked to do. He also often disturbs the lessons by wandering off, throwing pencils around and refuses to do work. He is not concentrating and not progressing well at all and his reading and writing are almost non existent. The teacher suspects that he is dyslexic. He also doesn't like school and hates doing schoolwork at home. Apart from that he is very intelligent, articulate and quick thinking. He always has very sensible and practical ideas in terms of solving problems (often I am surprised that I didn't think of it myself!)and is interested in a lot of different things. He is also very social, makes friends easily and is very kind and considerate to other kids. He is not agressive at all. People always comment on what a lovely personality he has, even his teacher. My son is tall and slim, has fine olive skin, dark blone hair and greenish eyes. He is very healthy, has not been immunized and until he was 5 years he never had any medicine apart from Homeopathy for the odd cold/cough. At 5 years he had a badly infected eyelid from falling in playground sand and rubbing which unfortunately needed a course of Antibiotics. A few months ago he had another course of Antibiotics for very deep boils on his legs from infected mozziebites (live in the Tropics). Apart from that never ever anything else. Very important to know is that in April 2008 his older brother (my husband's son) passed away from cancer of the liver. They were not very close, mostly only saw each other at birthdays/christmas but still loved each other. Then last year in June my husband had been diagnosed with cancer of the liver himself and he passed away in January. Now just a few weeks ago my son's beloved cousin (was more like an aunt age wise) died of cancer as well. This nasty illness runs in my husband's family. My son seems to be very brave, cried only a few times a little bit which concerns me. He sometimes says that he wished his Dad was still here and how much he misses him, but that doesn't occur very often. I am afraid that he is very traumatised and is botteling everything up. He is grinding his teeth very hard when sleeping, I never noticed that before. He can be very disobidient and then he also often behaves immature for his age, but he occasionaly did that before his Dad died. He loves milk, water, apples, carrots, berries, peas, eggs, tomatoes, bananas and pasta. He doesn't like to be covered in bed and is often very sweaty when sleeping. A few days ago I started him on fish oil, maybe that will help a bit. I already have a remedy in mind but as I am not a professional and don't want to lose precious time I would appreciate your advice. Thanks!
Oh, one thing I just remember, he often puts his shoes on the wrong way, gets left and right mixed up. He doesn't notice until told and then the reply is 'I like it like that'

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
There are some indications here for the medicine Carcinosin (Carc.). Carcinosin can remove any family predisposition to cancer.

Symptoms that indicate Carc. are
significant family history of cancer (3 relatives)
lack of the usual childhood diseases
Olive Skin
very kind and considerate, not aggressive at all.
repressed crying / bottling everything up
craves fruit and eggs

The dyslexia, reading problems, left and right confusion, all point to a family history of figwarts. And the boils are a case of suppressed psora. We will also want a remedy that will remove the family disposition to cancer.

It's great that you're starting him with homeopathy so early. In cases with so much of a family history, homeopathic treatment is best done as early as possible.

Please complete a new patient form, because there is some information that is incomplete.

How is his sleep? Is he strong, weak, tired, or energetic? Does he like music, animals? What are his hobbies, likes or dislikes? Are there any symptoms of rage or suppressed anger? What were his emotions and actions like when his loved ones were sick? Was he helpful, responsible, sad, etc? Emotional symptoms will be important in identifying if Carc. is the remedy.

Thanks so much for your speedy reply, I really appreciate it!

Below the requested information.

My son wakes up in the middle of the night and then comes into my bed. Don't know what time as I told him not to wake me anymore.

He is quite energetic and strong (can do the monkey bars very well) but not really boisterous. He likes swimming and diving (with mask) in our pool and plays soccer. When practising and playing soccer with his team he also sometimes just wanders off and does something else and then just runs on the field again to join as it pleases him.

He likes music and decided to buy a ukelele from his pocket money a year ago, however, cannot be taught to play as he doesn't concentrate. He sometimes sings and dances too. Can easily recognise melodies if he heard them before.

Loves animals, especially chickens and dogs. Also likes to watch birds in our backyard. A few months ago he decided to become a vegetarian because he didn't want to eat animals anymore. It lastet a few weeks and now he sometimes eats meat again but not very often. The only thing he always eats is raw salmon sushi - he just loves it.

He also still loves his plush animals and plays a lot with them.

Also likes to play superman, spiderman, cowboy and superhero fighting aliens etc., the typical boys stuff. Dresses up accordingly. If he doesn't have a costume then he improvises.

Likes to build his own designs with Lego (planes, helicopters, spaceships) and to build all sorts of things with boxes, paper rolls, household items etc.

Loves to have children's books read to him, but doesn't like school work.

Interested also in books about nature, other cultures and medical books. The facination with medical books started already a few years ago, long before his loved ones got sick. He is very interested in how the whole body works and loves to look at medical charts.

Can be very disagreeable if asked to do something he doesn't want to do and can get quite annoying if we have to wait somewhere and he gets bored. Then he also often tries to involve people in a conversation, whether they like it or not.

I never had the feeling that any behaviour was due suppressed anger.

Seemed to be absolutely normal when his father and brother were sick. He was always practical. When told that the doctors couldn't do anything for his Dad he said I should give him my medicine(Homeopathy). Which of course we tried but it was too late.

A few weeks after his Dad passed away he asked who our Dad would be now and who would look after us. I told him we didn't have one at the moment and we could look after ourselves. But maybe one day there would be a very special person in our life again. Agreed that it was worthwhile to wait for that really special person.

He asked once what his Dad did to get so sick. Explained to him that some people get sick despite a healthy lifestyle.

Cannot say that his behaviour is dependent on time of day, temperature etc. We live in the Tropics so it's always hot but when we were on a holiday in a cooler climate it was the same.

Often talks back to me and wants to argue the point if something doesn't go his way. Also often interrupts adults by saying 'excuse me' and then just butts in.

Is afraid of thunderstorms but only in the night.

Likes to be consoled

Wouldn't say he is sensitvie to stimuli, never noticed

A few months ago he was always chewing the collars of his t-shirts. Went on for quite a while but it stopped many weeks ago.

Likes the foods already listed and suhi.

Doesn't eat a lot in terms of servings, normal thirst, cold drinks.

Mostly refuses to eat meat.
Apart from that he might eat a certain dish today, says it's his favourite meal and even have a second helping and then the next time has only a few bites and says he doesn't like it.

Head and backt very sweaty, even after slightest exercise

Regular bowel movement once a day with soft stools. One odd thing is that he doesn't want to flush! I always have to tell him to do it. When asked why he doesn't flush he doesn't answer.

As said, wakes up at night and comes into my bed.
Sleeps mostly on belly or sides with one leg at an angle but also sometimes on his back. Grinds teeth

One eyelid infection and once tropical legboils treated with Antibiotics.

Apart from that some coughs, colds, a few fevers and one middle ear infection treated with Homeopathy (Bell, Sil, Puls, Hepar, kali bi, Dros, Spongia)
Had chickenpox at age of 2 1/2. Was mild and didn't cause any problems.

Many members of his father's family have cancer or already passed away due to cancer, not only my sons brother and cousin. His father - who had two different cancers at the same time - was about to undergo genetic testing for Li-Fraumeni Syndrome. That's what the genetic councellors think it is. Li-Fraumeni syndrome is a rare disorder that greatly increases the risk of developing several types of cancer, particularly in children and young adults. There is no cure so I won't have my son tested.

In my family there is my mother with pancreatic cancer and her mother with thyroid cancer. Both were diagnosed very late stages and passed away only a few weeks later.

Don't know whether it's important but my son was born 5 weeks early. Was good size and weight (48cm and 2,5kg).
Pregnancy and birth easy even though I was already 41 years and didn't have children before. Labour only 3 hours and no painkillers required.

Ok, that's it for now. If I can think of anything else I will mention it later.

I just hope that there is something that will help him to deal with the losses and to enable him to learn to read and write. I don't want him to go off the rails when he is a bit older!

Thank you for your time and help!

Symptoms that indicate Carc. are
significant family history of cancer (3+ relatives)
Olive Skin
very kind and considerate, not aggressive at all.
repressed crying / bottling everything up
craves fruit and eggs
sleep problems in children
love of music?
love of animals.
vegetarian because he didn't want to eat animals anymore
restless children with outbursts
not emotional when dad/bro were sick/always practical

I see many more symptoms of Carcinosin, the nosode of Cancer, made from it's disease tissue. I'm not sure what your thoughts are on that. Carc. is often used in children especially with a family history of cancer. And it often removes the predisposition completely.

Carc. is used in those with a family history of cancer who are especially thoughtful of others, such as one who decided to become vegetarian as to not hurt animals, and those who take losses without much outward emotion or crying.

Does anyone have a good webpage that describes Carc. Kent doesn't list it in his MM.

Have you looked into a constitutional remedy? You say that you have a remedy in mind, what is it and why? It might be useful before or after Carc., and you may see other symptoms.

(Bell, Sil, Puls, Hepar, Kali Bi, Dros, Spongia) What was the response to these remedies?

People are finding it difficult to answer all the quetions to reach to the real ailment.

Would suggest -
Organs in the body which are weak and not producing sufficient material to counter act the ailment /weakness needs to be addressed and then related remedies be suggested. This definitely brings results.

For this you have to provide to us:-

1. Name
2. Date of Birth
3. Time of Birth, and
4. Place of birth.

Hello and thanks again Jewish Homeopath.

I had Phosphorus in mind but I was afraid it wouldn't deal with the trauma my son suffered efficiently.

In the meantime I googled Carcinosin a lot as my books don't describe it well at all and it seems to come all together. Think it's the right one and apparently it has Phosphorus symptoms so to speak of.

The other remedies were used for acute conditions, depending on the type of cough/colds he had. Belladonna for a high temperature with puffy face. Has always worked well so far.

If you copy the link below it will take you to 34 pages remedy picture by Foubister (!) If you can't open it google - Carcinosin safecurenet - and you got it. Unfortunately haven't had time to read this one but others which I am unable to find at the moment. I could really see my son in it!

www.safecure.net/.../200709011350310.The%20Carcinosin%20Drug%20Picture.pdf

I would be grateful for your advice in terms of the potency/frequency.

Then I have to see if I can get Carcinosin here in Australia. Read a bit on this forum and apparently you don't get it everywhere, however, there are also some good links to suppliers overseas so shouldn't be too difficult.

Thank you!

Antje last decade
I don't know much about suppliers in Australia. However, Carcinosin is only a remedy that will be used for a short period. You might use 30c of Carc. dissolved in a bottle of 10oz water, and give him one tablespoon. Then see how long it lasts.

Once the Carc. symptoms are gone, he will need a regular constitutional remedy based on the symptoms at that time. - JH

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Thanks, will order it tomorrow.

One last question: Would it be an advantage to get a higher potency if available?

Antje last decade
Phosphorous is a powerful anti-cancer remedy also. If you see many active phos. symptoms, you may want to begin the case with Phos. Especially if you can't get Carc. where you are.

I generally don't start cases with higher potencies. Others are of other opinions on that subject.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
A craving for chocolate is another key symptom of Carcinosin. Does he like or dislike chocolate?

You didn't explain what symptoms caused you to think of Phos.
http://homeoint.org/books3/kentmm/pho.htm

However, Phosphorous is a powerful remedy in the cure of cancer. If you think Phos. symptoms are most present, then you might start with Phos, and keep Carc. in mind for the future.

Either way, Carc. should be followed by constitutional homeopathic treatment that covers the remaining symptoms left over.

The patient may use Carcinosion 200c only three doses (Each one morning+Noon+Night) if Jewish agree.

Dr Riaz last decade
I prefer to start patients on a smaller dose 30c or LM1, especially a child. One dose should be enough until we are sure that the patient benefits from the Carc. - JH

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Thank you both for your input.

My son loves chocolate and even though healthy nutrition is very important to me, I let him have a very small piece (and I mean small!)almost every day. I also only get the very good quality 60- 85% cocoa chocolate and he loves it.

He has two small cafe-au-lait marks, that made me leaning towards Carcinosin too.

I was thinking of Phosphorus because of his outgoing friendly nature and his appearance. And because they can have problems with mental effort.

I already called my supplier and they have Carcinosin available, didn't ask what potencies though.

LM1 sounds good to me and once I got it I will give it to him on the weekend so that I can observe him. If LM1 is unavailable I will get 30C and give it to him as advised by you JH.

Will keep you posted!

Antje last decade
Ok, if he craves chocolate, and has cafe-au-lait marks, then we are sure Carcinosin is the remedy.

We can try Carcinosin LM 1. If they sell it in liquid, buy the larger amount, 8oz if possible, otherwise 4oz. Otherwise get Carc. 30c.

Instructions
Put one pellet of Carcinosin LM1 into a 10oz container of water, and let it dissolve. This should be marked Carc. LM1, and saved in the refrigerator. If it is in liquid form, this is the main solution.

Then take one tablespoon of that and move it to a fresh 10oz of water. Give him one tablespoon of that.

This dose could last a few days, weeks or even a month or more. If there is improvement afterward, when the improvement fades, you can repeat, giving the main container 10 hard shakes each time before diluting. Over the time that the patient is on Carc. these symptoms should disappear, and then the patient may be ready for a more general constitutional homoeopathic remedy.

Here is a favorite quote of mine from Dr. Grimmer.
'Surprisingly few patients who have had the advantage of homoeopathic constitutional prescribing (over an adequate period of time, say from two to five years) will suffer from any form of cancer. And if a preventive diet, one that is meat-free, is followed at the same time, chances for that will be increased and cancer rendered that much more unlikely.' I always get my remedies as a liquid in small stock bottles of only 15-20ml and then take/give only 4 drops as a dose.
I am a bit confused now. Do I still have to add it to water?

Is that what you suggest the plussing method?

Thanks

Antje last decade
No. I don't plus.

This is Hahnemann's method that he used for all remedies. Hahnemann always used an additional container of water to make the effect of the remedy more easy on the patient's system. It's slightly more complicated to explain, but I find the improvement in action justifies it.

If your remedy is in a 15-20ml container, then that is the main solution to be saved in the fridge.

Put 10 drops from this into a fresh container of 10oz water, and stir. Then give him one tablespoon of that.

We can use more or less in the future depending on the reaction.

bump.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Right, I understand.
Have to wait for the delivery now and then for the reaction after my son took a dose.
I really appreciate your help and will report back asap!

Antje last decade
Please report the effects immediately after the first use of Carc. Then we will wait and see how long a dose lasts.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Unfortunately I am still waiting for the remedy as I had to order it from interstate. Hope it will be here before the next weekend as I want to administer the first dose when my son is at home and I can observe him.

By the way, found an interesting site on Carcinosin. Well, I think it's interesting....
www.bihinternational.com
and then under latest news a 'Carcinosinum Proving'

or just google: Carcinosinum Mexico and it will be the first to come up

What I find most interesting is the swelling of the eyelid.
My son once had a badly infected eyelid with purulent and bloody discharge and a quite a few times just a red swollen lid without any other symptoms.

Antje last decade
I don't think you need to wait until the weekend for observation.

He should feel some improvement just after administration.

Eye symptom is another good confirmation.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Another thing that occurred to me is that the previous remedies he's used may have removed some of the other miasms, making the cancer miasm symptoms more prominent.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Were you able to get the Carcinosin LM1?

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Yes, I will get LM1, that's the reason I have to wait as my supplier had to order it.
Can't wait to give it to my son and I just hope it will help him to get better at school and deal with his grief.
