Advice needed on Vitiligo and Alopecia

My wife, 44 years of age, suffers from both Vitiligo and Male Type Alopecia.

The Vitiligo started from the age of around 20...on lips and private parts. They remained mild for a long period but off late are spreading. Now they cover most parts of fingers, palms, wrists of both hands. Similarly on feet. The prominent symptom is depigmentation of skin on parts which suffer from constant friction -- from shoes, clothing straps, etc. Happened on wrists as they get pressed against the table surface for long period. Doctor terms it as Koebner syndrome.

She also suffers from gradual thinning in dia of follicle and subsequent loss of hair, affecting the frontal and vortex region in a general manner. Much thinned already, tending towards male type baldness. Very little graying. Excessive perspiration on head (all over) and neck during hot and humid weather; hair gets completely wet and the sweat gets into eyes. Sweat increases with slightest exertion. Develops tough dandruff during dry months, especially the winter. The rest of the skin is blemish-less, normal, soft.

She is slim but soft-bodied, acquires fat more in the lower torso (lower belly and thighs). Neck and arms are thin. Nature mild, introvert, gets depressed or scared, may weep, but will weep alone.

Please suggest remedies for her.

Shoumitro,
Also tell what does she think of her vitiligo and her hair loss?
Please dont manipulate on her part you can ask her this question Ask her 'what comes to your mind when you look at these vitiligo or when you look in mirror etc'
Listen to the answer Carefully then report
Any emotional tension she has & how is her reaction to it?

Dr Yogesh, thanks for the prompt response.

Sure, I'll ask her and post here response here. It may take a couple of days. In the meantime, some additional information:
Her vitiligo can be linked to a period in her life (at the age of 20) when she had to live in a suppressive and humiliating situation, having to suffer silently. As she told me, she passed through a lot of mental stresses then and the disease too made its first appearance then. The allopathic medicines given to her contained anti-malarial drug which perhaps caused another condition later, namely, high eye pressure (she also has high myopia… power -7.0 in both eyes) which now is tending towards glaucoma.

By the way, I administer Phosphorous 200 to her once a week, along with Minodixil solution application on scalp daily, and this is showing signs of new hair growth (frontal, but not in vertex), but perhaps temporarily.

Shoumitro,
You rightly judged it, that period of lot of stress wherein the disease set in even that would be vital for my prescription if you could give some feeling of hers about that period would be a great help

Dr Yogesh,

Sorry for the delay… wanted to give my wife some time to ponder over the matter and then reply… also was myself too much pre-occupied… sorry again.

Your Q: what does she think of her vitiligo and her hair loss? … What comes to your mind when you look at this vitiligo or when you look in mirror?

Her Ans: Feel very depressed, feel like crying. Wish life to end without any more suffering. Such feeling, however, does not stay all the time… feel more positive later.” This positiveness is displayed in her perseverance with her silent fight, which she undertakes by means of sticking religiously to the treatment, whatever available (allopathic/ayurvedic/homeopathic).

Let me add something here. My wife has to go outside on work. She is uncomfortable with display in public of the vitiligo patches (this is natural, but still I mention because there may be a useful homeopathic symptom in this). She camouflages them with cosmetics. Neither does she like to discuss her problems with anybody, except those very close to her in the family (like me and her parents), and that too only if asked for.

Your Q: Any emotional tension she has & how is her reaction to it?

Ans: Her main emotional tension is the above disease. Besides this, there are nagging worries about the future, about the finances; sadness in not being able to lead life in the way one wished to due to financial constraint. Secondly, being childless brings some sort of emptiness and mainly worry for the old age – but there is acceptance of this fact in her mind and it is not the all-consuming tension as it happens with some women. Thirdly, our sexual life is lacklustre, almost non-existent, can be said “love without sex” – this also may be the cause of some sense of un-fulfillment. I may add here that the blame for the third should fall on me, she has never been the unwilling partner.

In case of any tension with another person, she is not the one who would go on shouting and fighting. She would tell her part initially and then try to keep away from the person. Usually she will not find the right words and which would come to her only much later. She would feel disgusted about the person or the incident and would try to avoid the situation or the person.

She used to have a very good memory, but off late she forgets names of people or things, seems distracted or absent-minded.

Hope the above gives a picture of hers that will be adequate for you. I have already given her physical symptoms. Let me reiterate or add some -- excessive perspiration in the head and necks; intolerance of egg yolk (induces severe stomach pain), intolerance of milk and green leaves like spinach, constipation for days (with ineffectual urge), pain in the lower back which extends to the right thigh, all affectations in the right side including migraine, cramps in the toes and feet and calves after long standing/walking, uncomfortable with both cold and heat (humid heat especially), a peer-shaped body, soft disposition, pretty looks, soft skin, sweet voice.

Dr Yogesh,

Lots of thanks for the suggestion. I shall surely search for the medicine. i have a couple of queries, though.

One, I have seen that the local shops usually do not keep potencies lower than 30... they do sell some branded bottles from reputed brands, The names of the medicines printed thereon read like: Natrum Carb 6x, Ferrum Phosh 6x, like that. Is 6x and 6 the same? usually the medicine is sold in such bottles in the form of small tablets.

Anyways, I'll go to the nearby shop in the evening to see if 'Natrum Carb 6' in liquid form is available... otherwise I can search at a big shop next week.

Second, I have started giving her Phosphorous 200 once in a week (for hair loss) and Physostigma 30 once a day for the Glaucoma-like state of her eyes. Should I discontinue them? Should I keep a gap before I administer the dose of Natrum Carb 6?

Thanks and regards,
Saumitra
