The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Eyelid Twitch! 3 weeks now? Pls advise!

My upper eyelid has been twitching for the past 3 weeks. Everyone says they don't notice it, but it is very bothersome. I just started taking ignatia amara 30 and it keeps it away for an hour or two. Then it comes back. I have it during the day and when I awake during the night I feel it too.
It started out of the blue. Please help. I know homeopathic treatment requires an extensive interview in order to pick the right remedy, but I am willing to start anywhere because it drives me crazy.

Thanks for your response, kadwa. Below are my answers.
Patient ID: Sex: Female Age: 30

Please answer the following questions in a descriptive manner after careful analysis and recollection of previous experiences and happenings.

1. Describe your main suffering?
Right eyelid twitching that started out of the blue without any apparent cause. I am not currently taking anything except a multivitamin to make up for missing magnesium if this might be the cause. The twitching is not medication induced.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
I do have hay fever and get a lot of sneezing and watery eyes in the spring. My nose was stuffed, dry and useless for most of 2009. In the end of that year I also started having heaviness in chest and difficulty breathing (asthma like) but no coughing or wheezing; just a terrible feeling that an elephant was seated on my chest. Because I was under tremendous pressure to finish up schooling I started taking Arsenicum album and another homeopathic asthma medication from where arsenicum was the base, and I was able to get off the inhaler which I only used a couple of times to begin with. I have never been on an inhaler and currently am not on one. Occasionally I get the heaviness in chest and start hyperventilating but my doctor did not find anything wrong with my heart or lungs or thyroid.

I also went through a really bad episode of heart burn that lasted about a month and used to wake me up in the middle of the night the burning was so strong. I do not drink coffee, so I laid off everything else that might have caused it - tomato products, OJ, cocoa, tea, etc and it got better. It does not bother me right now. I had trouble burping. Burping relieved it.

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings? I have two very energetic kids so I feel pretty worn out emotionally and physically. There are days when I feel like I am 80 and my nerves are thinner than thin ice.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst? I feel my eye twitching from nervousness and anger and feel hyperventilation from negative emotions.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease? I can not connect the eye twitch to anything. The hyperventilation was the result of tremendous amounts of stress and me tal exhaustion this past year. I also spent a ton of time on a computer because my schooling was online. When I was studying I felt like the worst parent stealing time from my kids, when I was with my kids I felt like I was procrastinating and not working enough on myself. (awful feeling!)

6. Which time of the day you are worst? Hypeventilation (as mild as it is) and oppressed chest is worst in the morning until about noon. Eyetwitch is best at night after five and worst during the day.

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same? Negative emotions, having to repeat the same things over and over to be understood, frustration with not getting the point across, feeling useless and weak as a parent / manager.

8. Do your think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)? I think the physical manifestations are mostly emotion base. I see no relation ship with anything else.

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather? I like moderate climate. Ice cold air sometimes provokes my lung spasms. Humidity is very oppressing. Dry and moderate is best.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc. I have turned from shy, quiet and poised until about I had my kids, into very easily offended extremely irritable, very nervous and often arrogant after I got married and had my kids.

- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm? I do not feel anything. In fact I think the rain has a cleansing effect so I welcome it.

- Do you like being consoled during your tough times? Only by my mother.
- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc? Noise yes. I hate loud conversations; loud people, loud TV. Perfumes gives me a headache occasionally, so I never use one.

- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless
weeping, talking to one self etc? No.

- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife? I love my kids. My mom is my closest person. My husband is more on a neutral ground. We are very different and from different backgrounds, but we try to balance it all for the kids.

11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly? I have nightmares occasionally. I used to dream of snakes in my house and bed when I was little not so much now.

12. What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions? Dough and sweets - puff pastry, cookies, muffins. I do not like icing and anything overly sweet, spicy or hot.

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive? Normal.

14. How if your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive? Normal.

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs? Normal.

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type? Normal.

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping? Sideways.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general? Normal.

20. How do you think you are different from others, if at all? Very sensitive to lies and injustice in all its forms, and do not like it when people avoid the truth intentionally or not.

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?

22. What major diseases are running in your family? Hay fever on my dad’s side. Grandfather and uncle both had /have ulcer. Thank god there is nothing else worth mentioning in this category.

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance. Thin by American standards. My doctor said my body mass index was a little below normal. 5’6

24. (ONLY FOR FEMALES)

If you are not having normal menstrual cycles, please answer the following questions:

- Are the periods early, regular or late in general? How long do they last?
- Do you suffer from any kind of physical or mental discomfort before, during or after the periods?
- Is the flow scanty, normal or excessive?
- Is the blood thick bright red or pale watery?
- Do you notice any clots in the flow?

Thank you for your time, kadwa. I am looking forward to your answer!

Thank you, kadwa. I will do that and write back in a couple of days. In the mean time I just wanted to ask what you mean by relief at day 15: The eye twitch disappears fully or it becomes less rare over the course of the day.

Thank you!

Let us see what happens. You may report back after 15 days instead of deciding on your own.

Dear dr. kadwa,

Thanks for your help so far.

My fifteen days are not up yet. (the pellets came in the mail after several days so 15 days will be up on march 13). However, I wanted to ask if this is normal: today for the first time I had twitching in my left ring finger; quite strong and definitely noticeable for about 5 minutes and then it went away. Is this normal? I was not sure what to think.

I also wanted to say that my eye twitch has subsided. It is weaker and much less often during the day. The only time I get it strong is if I squeeze my eyes hard and open them or if a moving object comes close to my eyes and I close them or squint to protect myself.

Thank you!

**Gels is a deep acting remedy and it is well indicated looking at the totality of your symptoms. There can be such response to the remedy for a while. Please don't worry.

**As Gels has worked on your symtpoms substantially, you should repeat it in the same way as you have done earlier only when you find that your symptoms are worsening on sustained basis. Please don't repeat Gels unnecessarily. You may continue with the tissue salts for some time. Mag Phos needn't be taken if there is no twitching of eye-lids. Kali Phos is nerve tonic and may be taken for few weeks.

Dear Kadwa,

I just wanted to let you know how my symptoms have progressed thus far. I am better over all, more calm and the twitching has subsided tremendously. I get it rarely and the contraction of the muscle is not as strong. However, it is not completely gone and it makes me wonder if it will ever go away completely.

I feel a light to moderatly strong twitching and a droopy eyelid when something scares me or comes close to my eyes and I squint or squeeze them shut very hard. (And I do that squeezing quite often especially to protect myself when I play with the kids)

Occasionally I still feel the little tickle in eyelid during the day but it is more of a tickle not a contraction. This is when I am calm, doing office work quietly and there is no danger of something coming in close contact with the eye.

Do you think I should take Mag Phos again after a certain period of time or may be try a higher potency to get rid of the 'residual' light twitch.

Thank you for your help so far!

If the problem is mild you should use Mag Phos 6x. Tissue salts work best in low potency. There is no point in going for the higher potency. If the problem comes back in a big way, you should repeat Gels as explained earlier.
