help with mono

My son has been ill with mono for the last 16-17 days. He's home on college break and needs to get back on an airplane in a week. Help! He saw our homeopath about 10 days ago. His constitutional remedy this year has been calc carb. With the fever she first gave him belladonna 200C...4 doses...didn't do much...but..then 4 doses of calc carb 200c did bring the fever down and he was feeling quite a bit better (had a great healing sleep reaction). Eventually his very swollen upper eyelids and blinking went away. After another 4 days or so he developed a really bad sore throat and horrible fatigue...as well as lots of mucous in his throat that he's hawking up all of the time (yellow and thick). It hurts to swallow, he says. No more fever, no swollen glands...just horrible sore throat, not much appetite, thirst for cold water, lots of fatigue and says he doesn't feel well. It's now the weekend. He's e-mailed the homeopath but she hasn't gotten back to me. I'm thinking silcea might help him...just want to push this thing out already and am thinking that the right remedy should do it. Thanks.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
You have given one very peculiar symptom Thirst for cold water. This points to Phosphorus. Phos follows calc carb well. It also looks good for his other symptoms reported by you.
You may give him three doses of Phos 30 at a gap of 4 hours for one day (not daily, only one day) and see how it affects.

Thank you very much. He's actually feeling much better today (although he still looks tired)...says his throat is better, the mucous is still there but is less and he feels like he has more energy. Could it be that it took the last round of 4 doses of calc carb 200c (in water) 3 days to work? I'm a bit confused about how long to expect a reaction to a 200c potency to take. Is the thirst also a calc carb symptom? I'll hold off on the phosphorus for now, but will definitely keep it in mind...unless you think otherwise. Again, many thanks.

Calc Carb is a long acting remedy. It's effects may come upto 60 days of taking the remedy. Though calc carb patient is chilly but there is nothing wrong in giving calc carb just because the patient is thirsty for cold water. It doesn't matter at all if he develops thirst for cold water later. So it will be good if he can recover fully without taking Phos.
