Diagnosed health issues: Darrell has Ankylosing Spondylitis and Factor V Leiden(thrombophillia) (both are genetic conditions)
Ankylosing spondylitis is a form of chronic inflammation of the spine and the sacroiliac joints. The sacroiliac joints are located in the low back where the sacrum (the bone directly above the tailbone) meets the iliac bones (bones on either side of the upper buttocks). Chronic inflammation in these areas causes pain and stiffness in and around the spine. Over time, chronic spinal inflammation (spondylitis) can lead to a complete cementing together (fusion) of the vertebrae, a process referred to as ankylosis. Ankylosis leads to loss of mobility of the spine. Ankylosing spondylitis is also a systemic disease, meaning it can affect other tissues throughout the body. Accordingly, it can cause inflammation in or injury to other joints away from the spine, as well as to other organs, such as the eyes, heart, lungs, and kidneys. Ankylosing spondylitis shares many features with several other arthritis conditions, such as psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, and arthritis associated with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Each of these arthritic conditions can cause disease and inflammation in the spine, other joints, eyes, skin, mouth, and various organs. In view of their similarities and tendency to cause inflammation of the spine, these conditions are collectively referred to as 'spondyloarthropathies.' Ankylosing spondylitis is considered one of the many rheumatic diseases because it can cause symptoms involving muscles and joints.
Factor V Leiden (Thrombophilia) is a term which includes a number of genetic conditions which increase the tendency of the blood to clot, leading to sometimes serious and/or life-threatening complications depending on the location of the clot. Severity of complications associated with thrombophilia vary depending upon location and size of the clot. Clots in the extremities can cause superficial thrombophlebitis or deep vein thrombosis (DVT), both painful conditions. Clots in other areas of the body, such as the veins of major organs like the brain, liver and lungs, can be acutely life-threatening, and arterial clots can cause stroke and heart attack
Current medicine taking for each complaint Celebrex arthritic pain & Enbrel for Ankylosing spondisis
Celebrex is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to treat arthritis, pain, menstrual cramps, and colonic polyps. SIDE EFFECTS: The most common adverse effects are headache, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, and insomnia. Other side effects include fainting, kidney failure, heart failure, aggravation of hypertension, chest pain, ringing in the ears, deafness, stomach and intestinal ulcers, bleeding, blurred vision, anxiety, photosensitivity, weight gain, water retention, flu-like symptoms, drowsiness and weakness.
Enbrel USES: This medication is used to treat certain types of arthritis (e.g., rheumatoid, psoriatic, and ankylosing spondylitis). It is also used to treat certain skin conditions (psoriasis).
SIDE EFFECTS: Enbrel highly effects the immune system. Decreasing the immune system, so patient may experience more illnesses, like kindey infections, highly suseptiable to getting sick, colds, flus, etc. Redness, itching, pain, or swelling at the injection site; colds; cough; headache; or nausea may occur. chest pain, stomach pain, trouble breathing, mental/mood changes, severe headache, signs of infections (e.g., persistent sore throat, fever), butterfly rash (i.e., rash on nose and cheeks), extreme fatigue. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: tingling of the hands or feet, unsteadiness, unexplained muscle weakness, seizures, vision changes, unusual bruising or bleeding. Though very unlikely, you may have a slight increased risk of developing cancer (e.g., lymphoma) to this medication. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop symptoms such as: unusual lumps/growths, swollen glands, night sweats, unexplained weight loss.

Symptoms for toe – head:

Feet: has always had feet problems since child. Feet would hurt when a child if he was on his feet too long. Has flat feet and ankles bulge in. Darrell has been struggling with severe arthritis in his right ankle. Needs to take Celebrex for the pain and wears a brace. The skin color on the right ankle is a dark purple blue color, says it looks worse when takes a shower. There’s quite a bit of swelling and soreness in the right ankle. In 1992 Doctors fused 3bones, b/c they were rubbing against eachother causing him a lot of pain. From that operation he cannot rotate his foot around, just flex and extend. He says the whole ankle hurts not just one part. Sometimes the pain gets so bad he can hardly walk. The pain feels like an ankle sprain and is there most of the time, sometimes a sharp pain on bad days when walking. PQRS: when awake feet are icy cold, but as soon as he falls asleep, feet become hot and sweaty. He’s been suffering from this arthritis in the Right ankle for over 30+ years.
Lower leg: used to have a few blood clots in his right leg. Darrell has a condition called Factor V Laden, which is a blood clotting disorder. His blood clots too easily so he is taking a blood thinner everyday, with taking the blood thinner and changing his diet from fatty foods to fruits and veggies his blood clots have disappeared.

Upper leg: no issues

Pelvic region:
Urinary: He says this is his biggest issue right now. Has to go the bathroom every 10min – 30min when awake and 2-3 times during the night. He has no burning or itching and each bathroom visit is regular flow. Urine is a clear to light yellow color with no particular smell, normal urine smell. Not offensive. Sometimes his bathroom time is very urgent and cannot make it to the bathroom fast enough, will then have some dribbles. Darrell has Ankolysis Spondylisis which is a severe arthiritis of the spine and highly effects the nerves and organs in the body, it also causes a severe hunch back and tends to naturally fuse together the bones in the spine. So with the AS, his nerve that controls his urine output has been damaged.
Bowels: will usually go 1x/day or everyother day. Stools are hard and dry, normal light brown color, normal smell. Soemtimes has gas. Most of the time needs to strain a lot to go to the bathroom has push very hard. Does not need to hold the toilet seat though.

Stomach: no issues
Respiratory: no issues

Back: Once and awhile will get sciatica, lower back feels sore, soreness comes and goes. Sitting in general causes the upper back and neck to hurt, feels better when gets up and moves around. Feels better after doing his physical therapy exercises. He 3 bones that have become fused in his upper back due to the AS this has caused him to have a severe hunch back. The area that bothers him the most is his neck. All more of the right side of the back, neck and into his shoulder does he feel aching pain.

Extremities: the tip of his fingers turn white and feel numb for about 10-15min. comes and goes every few days.

Throat: sometimes it’s hard for him to swallow, takes longer to swallow.

Face: Sometimes he slurs his words, as there is too much saliva in his mouth on the left side. Other times his mouth feels very dry and has a constant need to chew gum. Nose sometimes turns purple. His left eye sometimes closes when he is tired and cannot open it, it just stays shut and this will last for a few minutes. His ears often get filled up with wax, they need to be flushed out regularly. Sometimes when he turns his head a bit too fast he sees a blinking flashing light out of the corner of his Right eye.

Head: No headaches
Mentals: likes to talk a lot, can be very gullable/talked into buying anything, has a somewhat compulsive/obsessive disorder with controlling his food and weight, buying lots of pens and pads of paper, buys without thinking, very sensitive and defensive when people tell him he looks too skinny and needs to gain weight. He is very caring, loyal and extremely honest, will always follow the rules and will never break the law, if he only had 1 shirt and a little food he would give all he had left to someone who needed it more, I think he still mourns over his parents death 30 years ago, still has some trust issues and insecurities with his wife who cheated on him and moved in with another man for 6months about 15years ago, she eventually realized how good she had it at home with my dad and moved back home after the 6months they are still married, I don’t think my dad has ever gotten over that.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
A dose of Staphysagria 200c now and Causticum 200c after 15 days may help him.

I'm not a doctor but seven years ago I was diagnosed with Ankylosing spondylitis. After doing much research on my own, which is how I found your post, I have come to the conclusion that I've had Ankylosing spondylitis since I was a child. Over time, my symptoms have progressed especially after I turned 30 years old. The internet says AS is most common in men but as a female with AS, I can tell you it's no picnic for the ladies either. However, I have found some things that have helped me and hopefully it can help someone else too. My rheumatologist gave me a prescription of Lidocaine patches for my back in addition to the Celebrex and Sufasalzine. The Lidocaine patches offer more relief and are especially good when I know I've got a lot of walking to do. Ironically, while AS is an auto immune disease where the immune system goes into overdrive, I have found that by boosting my immune system even further, I have reduced some of my AS symptoms. And as much as I love a greasy hamburger, I've learned there are some foods that seem to give my body more AS symptoms that others. Peanuts is one such food. I'm not allergic to peanuts and I love peanut butter but any form of peanuts seems to leave my body inflammed shortly thereafter. I've also cut way down on dairy products in my diet and that has helped immensely. A friend of mine who has rheumatoid arthritis swears she reversed it by following a strict alkaline diet. I'm not that healthy yet but as my diet has become healthier and leaning more toward an alkaline diet, I can see results in the AS symptoms. Speaking of food, I don't generally like seafood but I've learned to eat much more of it because there's something in seafood that seems to help. Taking a supplement of Omegas I'm sure is good but I don't feel the benefits like I do as when I actually eat seafood. Apple Cider Vinegar also seems to help my AS - especially when combined with Vitamin D. I've joined a health club with an olympic size swimming pool. The water is heated and feels good on my aching joints plus the exercise is good too. I sometimes use an electric blanket at night because the warmth somehow reduces the pain. As unflattering as they look, orthopedic shoes and good tennis shoes have been a life saver for my feet. I get pains in my eyes which is supposed to be common. I wear transition glasses - they turn into sun glasses outside - and that really helps! Have you heard of Myasthenia Gravis? The condition you described with your father sounds like Myasthenia Gravis. My grandma had MG and it's also an autoimmune disease and it impacts the eyes and face similar to your description. I hope you have found other answers as well. Wishing you and yours the very best!
