I just saw all of the posts regarding merina and hair loss and weight gain, I am having the same problems. I had Merina inserted 8 weeks after my daughter was born and I am getting mine removed this week and hoping things will improve. I have gained 10 pounds in 5 months and have been actively trying to lose weight. I now have more weight to lose than right after my daughter was born. My hair is coming out in handfuls and my house is covered in it, it has even clogged up our vaccum and shower. My OBGYN said this was most likely not due to Merina as she had never heard of anyone having symptoms like this, maybe I should show her this forum.

Once dealt with a who had a thyroidectomy , and who had the hair problem.
Have had other people with hair problems and nearly always it is traceable to hormonal dysfunction.
The thyroidectomy case was held good for periods of 12/16 weeks on Cassinosin high [ but that was due to the fact that the thyroidectomy was needed to deal with cancer of the thyroid].

Generally best gland adjuster is Pineal 6x.

you are experiencing a common condition called telogen effluvium this is the moulting of hair often seen6 to 12 weeks after childbirth.during pregnancy high levels of oestrogen reduces hair shedding (hence the thicker hair)and afterwards shedding occurs.expect this to last 3-6 months, but low grade shedding can last longer especially if a bit low in iron so a iron supp is useful. This is not associated with progesterone containing pills etc so the merina is very unlikely to be the culprit. The key to identifying the trigger for telogen effluvium (there are many)is the hair fall always begins 6-12 weeks after the event etc.I always check iron levels and thyroid function an my patients but in postnatal women almost always just this.I think more likely to be seen in these women in future when ceasing the pill(oestrogen containing) or hrt again with classic delay before moult
hope this helps.

Would Samantha be kind enough to advise what if anything can be done about the hair loss?

samantha,
i had my merina iud inserted about may of this year. my daughter is now 10 months old, i am still losing my hair in clumps,i donate plasma regularly and they always take a blood sample and they say i have high iron. my hair loss seems to be worse when i wash and brush my hair. i'm worried i will be bald before long!!!
do you think my hair loss could be attributed to the merina?

Ever since I had Mirana inserted, I have been having severe hair loss but not weight gain. Even I stopped getting my periods. Is the remedy to only remove mirana?

I have been on marina for two years and i havent had one problem however. I have been on every birth control out there and every last one of them I had a extremely bad effect including hair lost and weight gain. This is the first birth control that has worked for me. and I have been looking for 6 years in fact I gave up and thats how i had my son.lol but I told my OBGYN that I would try one more thing after I had my son and it has been great. It even stop the terrible cramps I use to have but my bestfriend say "the shot" did all of that for her.

Just wondering if removing the Merina IUS has helped any one with the hair loss situation? I have had mine in for about 5 months, Thought I loved it. Now I am freaking out about bald spots on my head, and everyday noticing more! HELP!!

I had merina for about 1yr. 6m after having it inserted I started lossing ALOT of hair and gainned about 15bls. I was so scared! I have very thin hair is it is and I was starting to look bald. :-( I removed my IUD and within 3-4 month my hair started growing back and the weight has dropped off.

The hair loss I've been experiencing has gotten worse. I've also gained weight after actively trying to lose. It is NOT from childbirth. My children are 7 and 8 years old. I have an appointment to have it removed on Aug 17th. Five months was enough for me!!!!
