Sulphur and Spina Bifida

I have Spina Bifida and would be interested to know if anyone has any knowledge or opinions on the use of Sulphur in someone with this condition.

I have read contradictions regarding this remedy - There is material that says sulphur should not be used in structural disease and material also suggesting it is a very useful remedy for my condition.

Any opinions would be welcomed.

Cheers

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hi kristy,

Please mention about your symptoms in detail, both physical and mental, and then the appropriateness of Sulphur can be discussed.

Hi Sameer,

It's not a symptoms case. I have been studying 'homeopathy' from home on-line and have a strong interest on this matter.

I am currently working my way through a list of remedies that are listed as useful and I have come across some conflicting information regarding the use of Sulphur in structural disease - for me to read any further into this involves medical journals which I have no access to.

The majority of information suggests Sulphur is as useful as the others - This is for my own educational purposes and for me to gain a greater understanding - that's all :o)

Cheers again,

Kirsty

Hi Kristy,

Okay, to answer your question from an educational perspective then:

Since Sulphur has both anti-sycotic and anti-syphilitic properties, so it possesses the power to bring structural changes in human beings, and hence it has the power to prevent/cure those if given early enough.

Of course, the more advanced the structural change or the pathology is, the more careful one needs to be, in the usage of higher potencies.

However, that being said, spinal bifida is most commonly found in tubercular cases, and this is what Kent has to say about Sulphur's use there

'But it is a dangerous medicine to administer in advanced cases of phthisis, and, if given, it should not be prescribed in the highest potencies. If there are symptoms that are very painful, and you think that Sulphur must be administered, go to the 30 th or 200 th potency.'

Hope that helps.

20 years back some one came to me with this problem..but he didn't have the patience for / or the faith in homeopathy...and I was quite new to homeopathy at that time. The guy went for surgery.

It is a tumor of the spine.
The suggested treatment is:

Bacillinum 200 ...one dose ever week for three weeks (on empty stomach)... then wait for result.

Calcarea Phos 6x ...four pills four times a day for 3 months.

Use usual pre-cautions as recommended in homeopathy.

The causation is hereditary...due to the presence of a miasm passed on from previous generations.

There could be cases of TB in the family...father's side or mother's side. Check family medical history of uncles and aunts in addition to that of parents, grand parents etc.

To let you know since you are studying homeopathy in detail.

In What sense?

I asked the question regarding sulphur and Spina Bifida for my own educational purposes - To gain a greater understanding of this remedy.

Your response required a much more indepth response...

I am in no way looking to prescribe, so would your initial response suggest that this is the remedies you would have prescribed for the patient you saw?

Or is this what you would be recommending someone with this condition to take?

Thanks,

Kirsty

I think you need to look at Bacillinum ...as a remedy !!

You also need to examine:

1. the family medical history of the patient...to identify the hereditary taint.

2. What other ailments the patient has been through from childhood till now ?

The answers to the above two questions will lead you to the selection of a remedy that will neutralize the impact of the miasm on the patient.

It will also tell you if the selection of Sulphur as a remedy is correct or wrong.

I had commented on :

'Thanks Sameer!'

Although I had posted the guidance.

You are probably approaching the case in the wrong way by:

'selecting the remedy first and then analyzing the case'

the correct way is to:

'take down all the symptoms of the case and then match it with an appropriate drug picture'.

....for in depth knowledge of homeopathy...you need to understand 'miasms'.

The ailment you are talking about is the out come of the presence of a chronic miasm in the patient.

My notes (for future reference):

Aversion to opposition of thought process...Nux Vomica, Lyco, Aurum Met

Hi Pankaj,

Thanks for taking the time to reply..

My question was simply in relation to my own research.I'm not looking to be advised on any remedies for myself or for anyone else.

I am successfully undergoing homeopathic treatment for my own well being - My initial query was purely an educational one....I questioned your reply as I felt it wrong that someone should advise on remedies when no patient history was given.

Cheers anyway,

Kirsty

Also to let you know...

....when you say 'typhoid fever'....you are actually referring to a set of recognizable symptoms that all such patients undergo.

Same...when you say 'malaria' or 'measles' or 'hypertension'
etc.

Then...that known set of symptoms become your reference point for further investigation into the case of the patient.

Homeopathy is system of medicine and NOT an alternative to surgery (where ever it is required). I have seen homeopaths recommending medicines for a confirmed case of rupture of intestine, appendicitis and other surgical cases. Similarly, spina bifida is a case to be corrected by surgery and supported by homeopathy. Administering homeopathic medicines alone will not correct a surgical case like spina bifida.

Surgery for appendicitis has been successfully aborted by timely homeopathic treatment ...in many many cases.

Hello 'aconite'

I have helped to avert surgery in many cases of pilonidal sinus..as you can see in the back pages of ABC Forum.

There are many patients who seek advice from me in person or through direct e-mail...and their surgery has been averted....for pilonidal sinus.

Further more, surgery for pilonidal sinus and nasal polypus is not a permanent cure.

In most cases it recurs after a lapse of some time.
Surgeons make this known to their patients before or after the surgery....as a normal medical procedure.

Pankaj,

For reference to anyone and yourself regarding Spina Bifida - It is not a tumour of the Spine but an opening of the spine which is different for everyone depending on the location of the opening of the spine - Occulta is different from this again.

There are 3 types of spina bifida all different in symptoms and severity.

All people with Spina Bifida have their own symptoms + complaints very few have the all of the same symptoms and severity of the symptoms. So someone mentioning that they have spina bifida is certainly not a reference point for anyone to give homeopathic advice. What type of Spina Bifida do they have?? Where is the lesion located?? What is the severity of the condition?? Purely 3 questions to start with - in my opinion.

If you look back to my original question you will see what I asked. I never once asked for homeopathic advice for myself. It was an educational question based on my own research as for me to go any further with my research led me into medical journals which I had no access to...

I do not require surgery of any kind - my condition is minimal in 'structure' therefore homeopathy works the same for me as anyone else. Homeopathy has the ability to prevent serious deterioration not cure the condition - it was developed during pregnancy therefore the body does not have the ability to clear this out. It does in many cases have the ability to improve the symptoms - depending what they are for each and every individual.

Sameer gave me a good reference point to continue with my research for this I am grateful..

Please read properly. What I meant was rupture of appendix or intestine. There is one homeopath who claims (in year 2009) that he can use Calendula Q to heal perforations of intestine due to gunshot or knife, without nay surgical intervention.
