What is Muscular Dystrophy (MD)? Is there any treatment?

What is Muscular Dystrophy (MD)?
Muscular dystrophy (MD) refers to a group of genetic diseases
characterized by progressive weakness and degeneration of the
skeletal or voluntary muscles which control movement. The muscles of
the heart and some other involuntary muscles are also affected in
some forms of MD, and a few forms involve other organs as well. The
major forms of MD include myotonic, Duchenne, Becker, limb-girdle,
facioscapulohumeral, congenital, oculopharyngeal, distal and Emery-
Dreifuss. Duchenne is the most common form of MD affecting children,
and myotonic MD is the most common form affecting adults. MD can
affect people of all ages. Although some forms first become apparent
in infancy or childhood, others may not appear until middle age or
later.
Is there any treatment?
There is no specific treatment for any of the forms of MD. Physical
therapy to prevent contractures (a condition in which shortened
muscles around joints cause abnormal and sometimes painful
positioning of the joints), orthoses (orthopedic appliances used for
support) and corrective orthopedic surgery may be needed to improve
the quality of life in some cases. The cardiac problems that occur
with Emery-Dreifuss MD and myotonic MD may require a pacemaker. The
myotonia (delayed relaxation of a muscle after a strong contraction)
occurring in myotonic MD may be treated with medications such as
phenytoin or quinine.

What is the prognosis?
The prognosis of MD varies according to the type of MD and the
progression of the disorder. Some cases may be mild and very slowly
progressive, with normal lifespan, while other cases may have more
marked progression of muscle weakness, functional disability and
loss of ambulation. Life expectancy may depend on the degree of
progression and late respiratory deficit. In Duchenne MD, death
usually occurs in the late teens to early 20s.

What research is being done?
The NINDS supports a broad program of research on MD. The goals of
these studies are to increase understanding of MD and its cause(s),
develop better therapies, and, ultimately, find ways to prevent and
cure the disorder.

Is there any treatment of MD?

Is There any treatment of muscular dystrophy or any one have any experience about the cure in homoeopathy.

In Homooeopathy there are more than 3000 remedies, the following remedies are helpful for treating the patients suffering from MD.

I am the mother of a child suffering from, what the doctors say is, muscular dystrophy. He has been under medication as per your advise. His name is ---and he is 7 years old. please find hereunder the medicine that he has been taking for some time, as per recommendation of homoeopath:

1. Gelsemium Semtervirens- 30
2. Causticum- 30

3. KALIPHOS 6x salt.

For the past six months, his conditions has deteriorated considerably and he has now come down to a crawl from walking on the tips of his toes. He would fall down suddenly and avoid walking unless forced to. We have recently started therapy and massage and there has been slight improvement, Alhamdulillah. He can now walk sometimes and manage to carry himself and lift his weight. Please advise us in this regard. If we should change the medication or what should be done.

Thanku very much.

I need your advice please help to solve the problem of above pt.

Hi,
Let me say something about Muscular Dystrophy,

About three years ago I went for holiday's to Latvia and I met with a homeopath who started to treat me with diet of green vegetables and the teaching of releasing stress causing the muscle dystrophy.
remarkable that within 3 weeks my muscles were re-activated, and growing strong. Until today I am a healthy person thanks to my Lucky holiday, PS my doctor is still believing that it is a coincident.
If you need a contact let me know, I am willing to pass on the adress.
love and kisses

I believe you Plussevan. There is a book by M. Schneider "a handbook of self-healing" in which he describes many exercises, also for MD.

Basic hom. remedies I know for MD are:
CAUSTICUM
LATHYRUS
PLUMBUM

Best regards,

A research report(which I stumble up on browsing) says Aspertame, Mercury, Benzene,Lead, Toluene cause similar symptoms of muscular dystrophy in humans. Since Homeopathy is "like cures like", why not homeopathic researchers try to dynamically potentize above stuff and try to eradicate this obstinate disease and show beacon of light to all those afflicted with that disease.

MD can be treated but it requires constant monitoring and follow up with the patients.

It is a cereberral problem. Homeo has answer to it.

Improvement depends upon the regularity of treatment and the condition of the patient.

My son 3 years old suspected to have DMD.Physical symptom show it.
Can Homeopathy cure him since he is only 3 years old?

Re: What is Muscular Dystrophy (MD)? Is there any treatment? From Rajendra [Log on to view profile] on 2010-05-16
This is caused by a virus cntered in the brain. It destroys the muscles.

You need to dicuss in detail to find solution. Definitely Homeo has answer to it.

Hello Rajendra

No system of medicine views this disease as originating from virus. Rather it's explained as a metabolic defect where in the protein dystrophin is not produced sufficiently to maintain the strength of muscle cells. If you have any studies or research findings supporting virus theory, please let us know.

Patients have responded when such treatment was given as such the theory confirms. Rai Bahadur Bishamber Das has also mentioned about it. If there is a patient, I can discuss with him and suggest.
