Asthma in 4-yr old boy

My son suffers from Asthma which is triggered by cold weather and respiratory infections like colds. All colds turn asthatic. He gets a short, croupy, cough, no or little expectoration when the Asthma flares up. He also wheezes - a whistle upon exhaling. His breathing is rapid and shallow, his whole chest seems to go in and out. He is allergic to egg as well and is mildly lactose intolerant. He is thin, has a good appetite and is very, very active. He also has a temper. He has chronic constipation - worse if he drinks too much milk. (I am giving him Lycopodium 30 for this and the BM are fairly regular even when he drinks a lot of milk)

For his Asthma I have tried Spongia 30, Ars.Alb 30 and Nux Vomica 30. I did see an improvement in his symptoms, but the rapid and shallow breathing did not go away. Should I try causticum? He had a flareup yesterday and I gave him homeopathy as mentioned above, but this morning, I had to five him Salbutamol and inhaled steroids. I'd much rather prevent his asthma and allergies and intolerances by by giving him a single or two well chosen remedies. Can someone please help me?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hello,

'I am giving him Lycopodium 30 for this and the BM are fairly regular even when he drinks a lot of milk'

Stop this if you are continuing this. No medicine is ever needed for long periods in homeopathy. A medicine like Lycopodium can be harmful if repeated too much. Just 2-3 doses are enough to trigger the curative response.

Tell me about the behavior and temperament of the child. Also talk about his fears/anxities, things which aggravate him, and things which make him feel good.

Any food cravings or aversions ?

Thank you Sameer. Will stop Lycopodium right away. Its only been 3-4 doses.

Temprament wise, he is impatient. Gets frustrated easily. Very imaginative. Will spin rich stories full of detail. Very observant. Notices and rememebrs the tiniest detail. Memory like an elephant. Fears to be alone, refuses to sleep in his own room and will wake often to check if someone is in the room. Change is hard on him. From a simple change like finishing his bath to big changes like going to a new classroom. He is very sensitive. To emotions, to sound. He is the family's emotional barometer. If I or his father are stressed, he will reflect that (even if we don't show our stress outwardly).

Food wise, he loves milk (but is intolerant to it), but hates cheese. Loves fruit and vegetables.

How extroverted or introverted is he ? How easily does he mingle with people outside his family ?

I would say pretty extroverted. Until 2, 2.5 yrs of age, he was terrified of strangers/people outside the family. Not any more. Thanks so much.

Okay then 3 doses of Phosphorus 30c to be given as below for ONE DAY ONLY.

Dissolve 2 pellets of Phosphorus 30c in a 250 ml spring water bottle. If leave the pellets in water for 20 mins, they will melt. You can shake it gently after they have dissolved.

Give a teaspoon from this bottle using a disposable spoon 3 times, spaced by 30 minutes. This is to be done for one day ONLY.

Let me know in 5 days after these 3 doses.

Restrictions:

1/. Nothing should enter the mouth for 40 minutes prior to, or after taking the remedy.
2/. Do not touch the tablets with your hands, tip them into the cap of the container they came in and then into the water .
3/. Avoid coffee, tea (including green), and other sources of caffeine such as some fizzy drinks and large amounts of chocolate, except where this would cause a drastic change in consumption
4/. Avoid wearing perfume/aftershave, or exposure to anything with a strong smell on the day and 3 days following the remedy administration. This includes any and all essential oils, and incense.
5/. Avoid the consumption of excessively spicey foods
6/. The use of medicinal herbs, either as 'teas' or supplements should be avoided during Homoeopathic treatment, as should the use of over the counter medication, unless this has been recommended by an MD.
7/. Nothing of a medicinal nature should be applied to the skin

I also have another Question. How does Causticum comapre to Phos? Causticum was the remedy I had arrived at. Would you please share your reasoning so I may understand? Thanks a lot.

Hi Dottie,

Both remedies have a lot in common, but Causticum is less excitable and has a more, passionate disposition with strong views.

Phosphorus is nearly always better from sleep, better in dry weather, better from rubbing, rest where as all these things tend to aggravate Causticum many times.

Causticum is better from:

wet weather, from continued motion, from washing and moistening the suffering part.

Also Phosphorus is much more sensitive to pain than Causticum.

Thank you so much. I'll go with Phos now.

I don't know if anyone checks this thread anymore...but my son has very similiar symptoms and temperment, with the following differences:
*no whistle on exhale
*no egg allergy or lactose intolerance
*not as fearful, but very tempermental and emotional and even violent when tired/stressed/sick
*does not like many foods--prefers dairy over everything
*evenly extroverted/introverted
*fair skinned,flushes severely when sick/tired/stressed

phosphorus was indicated from the questionaire but so was spongia--should i follow your recommendations to dottie?

thanks so much...
