Scar/patch after boil

Hi, a few months ago, I had some very painful boils in my right leg (what is called 'Baal-tor' in India). At that time, I took hepa-sulph to mature the boils and then silecia to clean it out. The remedies worked great - the bigger boil matured, erupted and cleaned out. However, the smaller boil actually just receded and disappeared. However, even after several months, there is now a small brown patch where the small boil was which refuses to go way (it is 3 inches above my right ankle). What might be the best medicine to get rid of this spot? There is no hurt/sensitivity there - nor is it a rough scar/path - it is smooth, like asif it is sitting inside the upper skin

Dear Dr. Sharma,
I wanted to reconfirm that you mean '3 months' and not '3 days' ? Please do let me know.

There is something called a 'proving' in homeopathy , where you start developing symptoms belonging to the remedy symptom picture.

This prescription for 3 months is a nice way to cause a proving.

I am glad you did ask the question.

sameer

proving is a method of developing the symptom of the remedy. by dosing yourself with it if I am right.

Is it appropriate to take medicines for a long period of time? or does it start to effect your personality.

Also are the effects of all medicine (symptoms) temporary or when the remedy is left the symptoms disappear? or is antidote the only answer.

thanks

Gumby, here is my *personal* opinion. I have seen many homeopaths, especially in India, start courses of several weeks or months on some remedies (unfortunately, a vast majority of them don't tell you the medicine - they create the powders and give it to you). In the western world, I have observed homeopaths (either by formal education or plain interest) are more specific in one dose, wait for effects, and then try another.

I read , that in the 6th edition of the Organon, Hahnemann actually recommends repeating remedy while the patient is improving instead of the wait and watch method in the 4th edition. I read this in Dr. Luc Schepper's interview at minimum.com

So anyway, I know of several homeopaths in India, who go against the wait and watch, and actually do what would be considered an 'overdose' by many in the forum. The interesting part is many of them are really successful. I know of many friends who swear by their methods, because it cured them.

So net-net, I really feel homeopathy is a combination of technical knowledge and first-hand-practicing-experience. The latter is harder, ofcourse and only comes with time. The former can come with good reading and theoretical discussions (which is what I am currently embarking on - theoretical reading and discussions with colleagues).

Thank you for your opinion. I am also doing the former (as described by you) for few months, I intend to continue till I am living. This homeopathy has become by day and night.

As for the subject. I think overdose is not advisable in cases where the disease is changing shape, many diseases actually change in form and manifest in a different way and thus another look is necessary. Mostly the remedy is changed, or a complementary remedy is needed.

I think overdose is advisable in low potency for patients who do not have the power to respond to high potency. Their vital force is very weak. So small doses repeatedly have to be taken of a low potency.

This is only my very immature opinion.

Paragraph 246 of Organon 6

'Every perceptibly progressive and strikingly increasing amelioration during treatment is a condition which, as long as it lasts, COMPLETELY PRECLUDES every repetition of the administration of any medicine whatsoever, because all the good the medicine taken continues to effect is now hastening towards its completion'

Organon 6th edition, foot note to aphorism 246

'What I said in the fifth edition of the Organon, in a long note to this paragraph in order to prevent these undesirable reactions of the vital energy, was all that the experience I then had justified. But during the last four or five years, however, all these difficulties are wholly solved by my new altered but perfected method. The same carefully selected medicine may now be given daily and for months, IF NECESSARY in this way, namely, after the lower degree of potency has been used for one or two weeks in the treatment of chronic disease, advance is made in the same way to higher degrees, (beginning according to the new dynamization method, taught herewith with the use of the lowest degrees'

I have tried using Dr. Luc's methods of diluting/sucussing C potencies on myself and in many many cases and have always ended up creating accessory symptoms. This is the way LMs are given and not C potencies. C potencies act better when dissolved in water, but repeating them like LMs ... try it and you will see what the results are :)

Here is what David Little has to say about this

'All of the statements about repeating the dose to speed the cure relate specifically to those cases that demonstrate only a slow amelioration that may take 50, 60 or 100 days to show any significant improvement. These circumstances condition all the following statements made about the use of daily and alternate day doses in aphorism 248. If the patient is doing very well on a single dose or infrequent repetitions then more rapid repetitions do not apply. There are homoeopaths that mechanically administer the LM potency daily for days, weeks and months on end with every patient. They have not yet understood the fine print in the footnote to aphorism 246. Every case must be individualized and the repetition adjusted accordingly.

In the footnote to aphorism 246 Hahnemann suggests that a well chosen remedy (not a poorly chosen one) may be given daily if necessary in slow improving cases. When repetition of the remedy is not necessary the LM potency will cause strong aggravations, unproductive accessory symptoms, and slow down the cure. Unneeded repetition can make a patient more hypersensitive or make them non reactive due to over exposure. Hahnemann’s new posology method spans the single unit dose in striking responses and the repetition of remedies at suitable intervals to speed the cure in slower moving cases when necessary. In this way, the posology strategy can be tailored to a great variety of patients and conditions.

Boenninghausen sought detailed information about how Hahnemann administered his medicines in his last years from Dr. Croserio, a close colleague of the Founder. In Boenninghausen’s Lesser Writings Croserio said that Hahnemann would reduce the dose or stop the repetition of his remedies as soon as he observed definite medicinal reactions. He also noted that Hahnemann often gave a single dose of olfaction with placebo and usually did not repeat the dose for at least one week. In my review of the microfiches of Hahnemann’s Paris casebooks I found that in most cases the Founder often stopped his medicines, gave placebo, and waited and watched for long periods. Hahnemann did not mechanically gave the LM potency daily for weeks, months and years on end! It was more common for him to use a series of doses followed by, or interspersed with, series of placebos. In his later years he sometimes gave a LM potency and placebo at the same time but he did not note down the schedules. This means that some of the prescriptions could be a single dose and others could be the interpolation of placebo with the medicine at various intervals. Hahnemann only recommends the daily dose when it was necessary

Very exhaustive response, Sameer. Let me ask you - do you always refer to Boericke's materia medica and H.'s Organon directly or are there other books you refer to ? I am looking for a good book that helps one interpret the medica. I heard George V. Medica Viva is more explanatory.

It is always best to refer to the old masters. I personaly love Hering, Kent, J.H. Clarke, T.F. Allen, and above all Hahnemann.

Boericke is someone I rarely refer to , and he is not a 'classical' author in the strict sense, and he does at times recommend allopathic type 'this for that' treatments.

There are a host of new 'sensations' in homeopathy created by these so called 'modern' masters, and that is easy to do in a science where anyone can create a lot of good packaging material and aura and then go on to state something with a certain degree of confidence, and that becomes a new 'invention'. David Little is an exception to this. He is one modern homeopath who indeed has a lot of substance in the claims he makes and in his teachings.

There are a lot of good 'unknown' homeopaths too, and the hype about a homeopath is not necessarily proportional to the veracity in the statements he makes.

Well, I just read a long thread on boil scars by Kuldeep - where the primary remedy was Silecia. I too figured it should be silecia, since it is supposed to be a very good remedy for pushing out foreign bodies. But it had limited effect on me.I *think* the scar may have reduced a bit, but it also may be my imagination. I took 1 dose of 200c silecia (which was the first medicine I took when the boils happened and it worked wonders to separate the large boils).

aske123 last decade
I was just refering to your question about the prescription being for 3 months or 3 days :)
