Struggling to find the 'fully correct' remedy

Hello,
I have recently started taking keen interest in homeopathy, mostly due to my 1.3 yr son, who has eczema. I have spent time reading several homeopathic books as well as relevant parts of Boericke's materia medica. I seem to be overwhelmed by trying to form what is called a 'constistutional remedy' which I believe is the best.

It is hard for me to understand how such a remedy may apply to a child who is only 1.3 yrs old (for example, it is nearly impossible to figure out if such a child is 'depressed' or just 'bored')

I thought I'd present the case to you and my selected remedy. I'd greatly appreciate if you could comment if I am missing out anything.

Case: Boy child of 1.3 yrs

Mind/Generalities: Very very active. Does not still still when he is awake. Always on the move, exploring. Mentally, very sharp. Also seems to be stubborn - will do exactly what he wants to do - you can't 'make him' do anything else. Very happy baby - in no way depressed. Loves a laugh. Always smiling. A very good looking boy as well (I'm not saying this as a proud father - just that this may have an effect on your analysis which I am hoping for). Generally restless mind. His focus keeps moving to different things.

Body: lean frame - towards thin side (probably due to his extra activity).

Symptoms:
a) Has food allergies. Very allergic to milk. We have been feeding him with Soy milk since he was a baby. No allerges to Soy. Also allergiec to strawberries and maybe others.

b) Has dry eczema. No oozing. But scratches like crazy upto bleeding when it hits. Eczema most prominent in folds (arms, legs), back of head. OF late I have observed that he scratches most during 9am - 11am and then intermittently during the day.

c) Warm weather seems to make him uncomfortable, and he scratches more. When I step up the AC he stops. Ironically, cold weather also used to make his skin dry as witnessed last winter resulting in scratching as well. His kind of eczema is dry, causes brusies due to scratching. I don't think scratching helps - proably makes it worse

d) We use eurserin cream and calendula lotion (no cortizones). It helps at times.. not always.

Based on the above, it seemed to me that Sulphur was the best remedy. It seemed the graph is for oozing eczema, so not applicable.
For lyc, it said main was baby crying all day, sleeping at night -again not applicable (he complains whenever he is bored, otherwise happy)
For petroleum - again, the conditions listed in materia seemed very vague (after thunderstorm, headache etc - which don't apply)

Finally, I ready psorinum is a miasmatic nosode andshould not be tried till others fail.

So eventually, I selected sulphur 30c and gave it twice a day for a week. I think it helped. His eczema reduced. So I stopped. A few weeks later (around 2 months), it is resurfacing again, so I started the course again.

But now I am thinking if sulphur is the 'complete' rememdy, but I am confused how on earth to conclude on a complete rememdy for a child.

The medica lists all sorts of other symptoms - in many of the medicines, there is say one or two matches but the rest don't apply. So what does this mean - I should not give him that medicine ?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
by what you have written, it seems that your child is PHSOPHORUS in nature and thus you can try this remedy for many of his problems.

phosphorus covers some skin outbreaks and eczema symptoms though not strong.

however, a gradual and permanent improvement of the symptoms will take place if phosphorus is given at infrequent intervals over long periods.

Dear Dr. Rishimba,
Thank you. This is where your experience is worth so much more than my literal medica reading.

May I ask a few followups:

a) What is the dosage of phos? How often ?

b) Can phos be administered along with sulph?

c) Just for my knowledge, I'd love to know why you feel he is a phos child. When I read up about Phos, the mind state was 'great depression' , 'fidgety', 'insanity','dread of death'. Of the above, only 'fidgety' matches. Similarly, it said 'vertigo' for head, which does not match. For ears it said 'hearing difficulty' etc etc.

So as you see, Dr., I am very confused on how one reads the medica. There are far many 'non matches' than 'matches' in phos.

Please note that I am not at all questioning you - I am trying to understand how experienced people like you typically read and sift through matches and non-matches.

I'd greatly appreciate if you have time to explain your analysis. I fully understand you are not indebted to do so.

Hi! I wanted to followup for a response on this.

Also, did you mean PHOS or CALC-PHOS? I read up about CALC-PHOS - it is an anti-psoric remedy and seems to match my son's constitiution to some degree as well (lean, restless)

Please clarify

On further reading, this seems to match a Nux-Vom constitution as a child.

To the untrained every polychrest medicine seems to match in some way or the other.

Every person will have hundreds of symptoms. The PQRS (Peculiar, queer, rare and strange) symptoms are to be ascertained out of those hundreds of symptoms and the medicine that matches those is selected.

It is futile to get a grasp on homeopathy just by reading materia medica. You need to understand the basics and philosophy first.

I suggest you to take the free course available at

Once you complete it and have a basic understanding you can use forums like these for further clarifications.
