Baby suffocating cough

My six month old daughter has caught a cough from her siblings. They are getting over theirs (its taken about 6 weeks) but I don't want hers to go on so long as it is so violent and racks her tiny body. I will describe her cough and then a bit of what the others experienced as they could describe it better than a baby.
Baby.
The cough comes on very suddenly and violently. It seems like as soon as she coughs it moves mucus up higher which makes it hard to breath. I put her flat on my lap and tap her back whilst she coughs very hard and half chokes until she clears the blockage. The mucus that comes up is sticky and stringy. We sometimes help clear it out of her mouth with a finger. Sometimes it is thinner and frothy and comes out of her nose. It is clear most of the time, like frothy saliva. Sometimes slightly white but that could be due to the milk she has just drunk. On a number of occasions if she had suckled recently she is sick from the violence of the coughing. Before she is sick I can hear it gurgle as it comes up. She thrashes her head around as she coughs and pushes down on her legs. If sitting upright on a knee she rarely coughs, but even sitting slightly back encourages the coughing. She coughs most when asleep. At night she sleeps with me and I sit her up or lie her on her stomach on me until the cough dies down at which point she gets upset and screams out. I give her back her dummy/pacifier lie her down and she goes straight back to sleep, until next time! Sometimes she is coughing every half an hour between midnight and 5am. The cough seems to be drier most nights than it is during the day. In the mornings she coughs very little and tends to sleep a lot to make up for the lack of sleep at night. She hasn’t been as thirsty/ hungry as usual. She looks worried much of the time though the last 2 days has shown an improvement and she is smiling more again. For a few days she had red puffiness under her eyes.
A change of air can also make a cough come on. Sometimes going outside, sometimes going inside, in or out of the car, a change from hot to cold or vice versa.
She has a slightly white coating on her tongue.

The rest of the family.

My partner described the cough as starting with an irrisistable tickle below the tonsils and as soon as starting coughing it goes into violent coughing spasms that seem like they will never stop. I even saw him get down onto his hands and knees to cough it was that violent. He said he thought it would make him pass out a couple of times.
Is seems like the starting cough moves mucus up which makes breathing difficult and they gasp in air then cough again to clear it.
In the children I have seen them suddenly get off of their chair and run around the room saying ‘I can’t breath’. G runs to me to tap his back. For about a week E was sick everytime he coughed and would miss the bowl because he seemed to be jigging his head from side to side. The mucus they cough up is clear, occasionally whiteish and I’ve seen it so long and stringy that it goes from a bending over child to the floor coming out of both his nose and mouth. They haven’t been thirsty. They can be sitting, eating, running around etc and seem fine one second and the next they are coughing and coughing.
No one has had a fever or seemed ill apart from the cough
The cough first started when we had to travel to the South of France then back to the centre then North to England all in the space of a week to visit unwell parents. My father in law and his companion both had laryingitis and needed more than one course of antibiotics to clear it.
Any advise as to how to clear this with homeopathy would be much appreciated.
