tooth bent backwards by fall

hi: i have a lower front tooth which was bent backwards (and protrudes upwards) by a hard fall. it is also loose. oral surgeon wants to extract along with the adjacent tooth which is slightly loose. the teeth on the other side were lost. can bent tooth return to normal vertical position without retainer which oral surgeon says is not possible due to loss of adjacent teeth? thanks. tom
