need advice for 9 yr old daughter

Hello,

My daughter has suffered from anxiety and fears for a long time. She still has a hard time letting me go anywhere( we're a homeschooling family, and I'm with my kids 95% of the time). She says she fears something will happen to me, or that I might just abandon her. She would rather go somewhere with her dad with me staying put at home than me going somewhere. She is very afraid around the house, will not go into a room on her own, will not go in the yard on her own. She is afraid of wild animals outside. She is very shy and will not speak to people she doesn't know. She will just nod, and hardly make eye contact. She is lacking in self-confidence, and would rather not ask if she can join in with other children(even children she knows well)for fear of being rejected. When she is playing she is quite respectful though, and joyful. At home things are not easy as she has a younger sister and is extremely controlling with her. She just wish her sister would do what she says and gets extremely frustrated with her if she doesn't to the point of hitting and raging. Her frustration level is incredible, and anything will trigger her. She has obsessive-compulsive behaviors, will tend to do always the same thing with both hands, if one hand touches something then the other needs to touch it as well. Also she does what is called pallalia (she repeats sentences she says in her head and I can see her lips moving). She has done that for about 5 years now, she started just before her sister was born. She can express love for her sister, and I know that deep down she just wishes to be a nice role model for her, that her sister will look up to. But her sister now has a strong mind of her own and doesn't respond well to commands. 9 yr old knows how to ask in a way that younger sister will respond well to, but almost always chooses to ask in a forcing kind of way. I will add that also she doesn't do well with expectations of her which she feels as pressure. If I expect her to do something she will just rebel. She needs to feel she is free to do it or not. She also rebels to any expectations of behaving a certain way because she is the older one, and will end up behaving in a much younger way. She is fiercely possessive (with sister) and will do anything to acquire something from her. Will not tolerate that sister has something she doesn't have, or something nicer. Sometimes she has surges of happiness, and cannot seem to contain the feeling and will act it out in an overexcited kind of way. She yearns for a lot, more things, more outings, more friends, more activities,... Doesn't seem to be satisfied with what she has. There's a lot of despair these days. On a very positive side she is always eager to go to her lessons, or activities. She listens well during lessons and applies herself well. She is very active and loves to do physical activities.
She is a nailbiter since before she turned 3.

Would appreciate any advice on this! Thank you!

Thank you for your response,

I finally just got the remedy (I had to order it), and I'm just wondering now how to give her one dose. Do I just give her one pellet, or do I put it in water to succuss and then give her a dose?

Thank you!

she is more of a PULSATILLA girl than phosphorus.

the mental symptoms lead to PULSATILLA than any other remedy.

-how is her thirst,
-does she like spending time in parks,
-what kind of ailments does she generall suffer from,
-does she like cool or warm weather,
-how is her bowel movement.

these are some probing questions to zero in on a remedy.

Ok, here's some more info. She often gets thirsty for water, but a pretty healthy thirst I'd say. She does like to spend time in parks, playgrounds. She is quite healthy and strong, doesn't get sick very often. She is tall and skinny. She is often cold, needs to dressup warm even in the house. In summer it may take her some time to get into cold water, although she loves the water. During swim lessons she definitely has tendency to shiver and so doesn't like that. She does enjoys winter activities though, playing in the snow, skiing, skating. Her bowel movement is very regular, normal looking. She has very good appetite, is not too fussy.

Thank you!

she does not seem to be pulsatilla considering her response to environment.

however, mental symptoms are close to it.

cold remedies like phos, baryta carb, silicea and kali phos may work.

try them one by one.

Dr. Rishimba,

I totally agree that she is not at all a Phosphorus child.

But I think her behaviour is very much corresponding to that of a Lycopodium child. She is shy , has fears and tries to over-compensate for her lack of self-confidence by being bullying to her 'younger' sister.
Pulsatilla is never bullying, she is mild , yielding but can be irritable.
But here we do see 'bullying' behaviour.

The difference in her behaviour at home and outside the house is totally fitting with Lycopodium children.

she is a cold patient whereas lycopodium is worse in warm environment.

however, she has shades of lycopodium personality.

i thought she could be pulsatilla as she has varying behaviour at different times. mental element is uppermost in pulsatilla patients and whenever you will have some varying or contradicting mental symptoms, you can probe for pulsatilla.

Thank you for the responses!

I am willing to try the different remedies suggested one after the other. I do wonder whether the first person who suggested phosphorus still thinks it fits? I would try that one first. And again I would like to know how to give the remedy, and if I try several ones how to go about doing that, how long to wait between each remedy?

Thanks again!

Dr. Rishimba, Lycopodium is in general a very chilly remedy even though the Lycopodium patient is worse in warm environment and better in open air.I do not quite find a varying behaviour in this case. Her behaviour has a constant theme of anxiety and lack of confidence for which she over compensates through the bullying behaviour.

Caroline ,I would not recommend Phosphorus at all. Phosphorus people seldom suffer from lack of confidence and they are never dominating. The child is not at all Phosphorus.

If you want to start with Lycopodium 30C, I would recommend starting with three doses of 30C at half hour intervals on one evening and waiting for a response for about 10 days.

Lycopodium requires very infrequent repetition.

Make sure , she does not eat 1 hour before and 1 hour after the remedy.

Best of luck,
Sameer.

dear sameer,

i have always used lycopodium as a hot remedy and it has worked.
in the literatures as well, its considered a hot remedy. can you show me some literatures where lycopodium is said to work on chilly patients.

now, regarding the mental symptoms, most of the times its found that a patient has characterictics of more than one remedy. they are called polycrests. pulsatilla is a polycrest remedy.

this girl is nervous, shy to strangers, afraid of going into a room alone, a nail biter, irritable and the PQRS are her fixed ideas...eg. if one hand touches something, the other hand needs to touch it as well...or.. repeating sentences
this is the PQRS of pulsatilla. these patients develop some vague idea and strictly follow it for some unknown reason.

on the other hand, she is possessive and a bit dominating on her sister. although this behaviour alone is not a pulsatilla trait, the combination of all above traits which are opposing in nature, collectively, is a pulsatilla trait.

finally, the patient is a young girl.

however, it would be interesting to note her response to lycopodium.

caromom,
please report the progress..

in case you dont get a response with 30c,before discarding lycopodium, please check 200c or 1m potency weekly dose for 2 to 3 weeks.

i would recommend pulsatilla as the second choice.

Dear Rishimba,

link no. 1 showing the patient is chilly
http://books.google.com/books?id=I5grqldV054C&pg=PA462&a...

Another link to Paul Herscu's pediatric constitutional types.

http://books.google.com/books?id=URNTAWP986kC&pg=PA80&am...

He even goes on to say 'They are ofetn chilly and like to wear hats, and may sleep with their socks on and windows closed. This is unusual because most children are warm blooded. The only time Lycopodium children like coolness is when they have skin dosorders, and, possibly, headaches; otherwise, they feel chilly and like everything warm- the room , food , drink, and bath.'

Paul Herscu is trained by George Vithoulkas and his book considered to be the best around for pediatric constitutional types.

So , this corroborates what I was trying to say.

Also for me POLYCHREST is a homeopathic remedy which has a very wide sphere of action and which covers many disease states; a popular and frequently used remedy;

And Lycopodium lies on top of this list for me.

Caroline,

I would not advise going to 200C or 1M without seeing any reaction. Remedies like lycopodium in high potencies and that too dry doses should be administered only once we are sure of it being the simillimum.

That being said , I think you would definitely see a reaction with 30C itself.

Caroline: Any feedback?

srisri last decade
lets wait for the feedback from caromom.

as per the author it seems that some lycopodium children may be actually chilly. this is not what kent or other materia medica says.

as i said earlier, she has shades of lycopodium and it would be interesting to know if it actually worked.

regarding the potency, i clarify that 30C may not give a reaction. there is no harm in going to 200c, one dose before discarding the remedy.

hope we get a feedback from caromom.

Thank you all,

I got Lycopodium 30c yesterday and haven't given it to her yet. Do I simply give her 3 doses of 4 pellets at 1/2 hour interval or do I dilute them in water?

Caroline

Caroline,

Please give three doses (3 pellets under the tongue is one dose) at half hour intervals on any evening and wait for 2 weeks. Then you can report back here.

This is from Kent regarding Lyco.

*******

The patient is sensitive to cold and there is a marked lack of vital heat, and worse in general from cold and cold air and from cold food and drinks. The pains are ameliorated from warmth except of the head and spine.

*******

I know many presribers refer this list by Gibson Miller and decide that Lyco is a warm remedy.

The fact is Lyco is a chilly remedy that is aggravated by warm environment too.

REMEDIES PREDOMINANTLY AGGRAVATED BY HEAT

Aesc-h., All-c., Aloe, Ambra., APIS, ARG-NIT., Asaf., Aur-iod., Aur-m., Bar-iod., Bry., Calad., Calc-iod., Calc-sul., Cocc-cacti., Comoc., Crocus., Dros., Fer-iod., FLUOR-AC., Grat., Ham., IOD., KALI-IOD., KALI-SUL., Lach., Led., Lil-t., Lyc., NAT-MUR., NAT-SUL., Niccol., Op., Picric-ac., PLAT., Ptelia, PULS., SABINA, SECALE, Spong., Sul., Sul-iod., Thuj., Tuberc., (Rabe), Ustil., Vespa., Viburn.

The list by Dr.Banerjia denotes it as a chilly medicine, other than being a leading antipsoric medicine, which incidentally covers all other dominant miasms too.

LYCOPODIUM
+++ L +++ ++ +++ C++

In essence Kent too says it is in general a chilly remedy, with a peculiarity of being worse in a warm environment and better in open air as pointed out by Sameer.

In fact this peculiarity serves as a guiding factor for selection of Lyco in differentiating between other chilly remedies.
