Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia

This Slovenian lady in an astrology forum has chronic atypical
trigeminal neuralgia for many years, which appears to be resistant
to allopathic and chiropractic treatments.

She is of slender build, middle aged.

I have suggested that she contact the Slovenian Homeopathic
Society for a listing of doctors in her area. She says she has
seen a homeopath before, but that it didn't help. Perhaps it
was that she lacked the patience, as you can read from her
posts in the links below.

Here is a description of her symptoms, excerpted from her
posts in the forum, since I can't post links to them:

' I have health problems (three neuralgias, from the right side of the
neck; the worst and most painful is Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia,
that goes into right eye, sinusitis and jaw bone). '

' I have terrible neuralgia pains. There is some nerve pinched
on the top of my neck, right and the pains are all over, especially
in the right eye. '

I don't think she has the patience to see another homeopath
for a constitutional remedy. Might there be any suggestions
for clinical remedies ?

Thank you.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
This prescription may or may not work.

Try it for a week, and stop if there is no response.

Procure Mag.phos 6x tablets. Mix 4 tablets in luke warm water and give her as a dose. She can take upto three doses per day.

Report back after a week.

Thanks, Gavinimurthy.

Will let her know about this remedy.

I just wonder if you could ask her somehow if the pain lets up sometimes-when?

Astra2012 last decade
Hi Astra 2012,

The pains do not appear to let up, she seems to
be having it all the time.

Here are her latest mails. The remedy picture appears
to be very complex :

' I have three kinds of pills for evening:

1. Rivotril (Clonazepam, a tranquilzer) - for muscle spasm
and trigeminal neuralgia.
2. Naproxen (antiinflammatory drug) - painkiller.
3. Sanval (same as Ambien) - for better sleeping.

And one hormone (Thyroxine) in the morning, for hypothyroidism.

During the day I take this medicine -
Galsud (decongestant) for nose mucus decongestion,
with antihistamine (similar to Actifed).

Otherwise I would have always pains.

Just now I have terrible pains in the muscle, coming from
the right side of back head down to the scapula, but pain is
going further on: to the liver or kidney, I don't know. I had
ultrasound and each time have few cysts on the right liver. '

' My neck muscles are bunched up. If you can see the
X-rays picture from the neck, all is black. Therapist told me
that black colours are muscles and muscles make compression
on the nerves. That means my vertebras are ok!

There is also the muscle, Levator Scapula. It is somehow
overstretched. It comes from the bottom of the skull down to
the scapula and is connected with Trapezium. That muscle
is worst.

Between skull and neck is one point, where starts the pain
and goes: one part to the right eye and other to the scapula.
Worst pain is in right eye: drilled pain, like we have by dentist.

What helps me?
First of all, it is WARMTH. Then anything to RELIEVE THE MUSCLES,
they are also in tension and doctor told me, I may not have any massage.
PILLS for MUSCLE SPASM help me as well. They have to have some
HYDROCLORIDE. Why that, I can't explain, because I don't know.
It is good anything for better CIRCULATION. I was last month by one
private healer; he does all over foot (acupressure points) and told me,
that circulation from the head, neck, shoulder and face, all is blocked.
I was looking here for some pills for better circulation. They don't
have it. SOLARIUM is very good, but only for short time.

Atypical Neuralgia Trigeminal is only reflex pain. I have to heal there,
where the pain comes from. For the neck and shoulder muscles I was
told first time, 1992. I have made mistake and went always to doctor for
Ear, Nose and Throat. I have lost time for nothing.

Those pains came first time, when I was in Secondary School, after
I was two years driving to the School by train (draft). I was also stupid
to walk on the rain without umbrella. Now, I have it and can't get rid
of it. '

Dear Wai,
It is very kind of you to be so concerned about this lady but
she, imo, seems to be addicted to pills! She takes 4 strong allopathic drugs every day (all are necessary? like: does she take a sleeping pill because she can't sleep OR because is time to go to bed and takes it just in case?) - no wonder homeopathy did not work.
These drugs not only mask/change her symptoms but also antidote hom.rem.

She expects such a 'magic pill' also from homeopathy- which only GENTLY coaxes her own body to heal itself (and now that body is continuosly bombarded with drugs).

But miracles happen. Have her follow Murthy's advice.( she should take mag-p at least half an hour after meals and after taking her other drugs).

I wish you all the best. Post if you have any question.

Hi Astra

The number of allopathic medicines the people of western countries in general seem to take every day amazes me.

it is definitely different here in India. People take continuous medication only for problems like B.P, diabetes, chronic kidney failures and Heart diseases etc.

For other problems they try to manage without medicines as much as possible.

The majority of the patients start taking these daily doses in their fifties, simply because these problems tend to occur generally after they cross 50.

The medicines for ADD, ADHD,Depression are very rarely used, hardly by one percent of the people.

May be the affordability of the westerners, and their liberal health care systems are a reason for taking too many medicines regularly.

In India for an average person food, clothing and shelter is the first priority, and they postpone taking medicines as much as possible.

I know many people in India just can't afford the advanced medical care, but what I am trying to convey is that even among those who can afford, there is always conservatism as far taking too many medicines in a day is concerned.

Murthy

gavinimurthy last decade
I also suspect they are more brainwashed.
They believe that the pill will solve their problems because they keep seeing it in tv, reading about it and hearing it every day.

(btw getting health problems just because one is older is also a myth imo-but we'll discuss it later)

I called my homeopathic doctor, very experienced,
about this case last night.

When I came to the part where she recollected
that her problems had started from the moment she
got caught in the rain during her schooldays, he
immediately mentioned Rhus Tox, 30C, particularly
if her hair was blonde.

If her hair was dark, he said Sepia, and if red, Lachesis.

He said Rhus Tox could be taken with Mag Phos, but
her constitution was Rhus Tox as the main remedy.

Wai Keong last decade
Rhus-t really helps when symptoms result from getting wet esp. WHILE OVERHEATED, also is acting more on the left side than right. Acts rather in more recent cases.

* (There are also remedies for symptoms resulting from draft of cold air, like e.g. causticum which at keast acts on the right side!)

rhus-t and mag-p do not antidote each other; they are not inimical.

but if she takes both, feels change, would she know which one caused it?

(I do not really pay much attention to hair color when selecting a remedy. Once some of us were 'playing' with astrology vs homeopathy but franklyy it is only for fun)

There is another point I would investigate, Is she angry? A deep seated anger results in right sided neck/shoulder pains.

Pl. also investigate possibility of Kali Bich.

If paratoid glands are swollen, person is prone to frequent colds with thick yellowish - green nasal discharge, ...then this med appears to be more suitable.

You must be joking Murthy.

Foreign drug companies have made a billion dollar fortune in India. See their websites and dig out their balance sheets. Take a note of their annual turnover and profits.

Some of these foreign drug companies have India based subsidiaries which are listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

It is because of the more than 100 crore population here. Even if 5 percent use the medicines regularly, it is a huge market, and that is the reason MNC's show interest here.

Obviously you don't have any rural background, like I have and hence don't know the realities.

Many patients in rural areas can't afford the high cost of allopathic medicines. They go to a doctor, only if it is absolutely essential.

They won't pop up pills on some pretext or the other like the town people do.

There are no jokes in this serious topic.

In rural India ...people have more faith in Ayurveda....they take Ayurvedic medicines....but they do take medicines.

Dabur, Baijnath...many more companies make Ayurvedic medicines which reach rural India in a big way.

Pl. see Dabur India website and balance sheeet from the net.

We are talking about the culture of a popping up a pill for every problem and then taking too many of them in a day.

Try to understand the context, and don't go off tangentially.

Murthy

gavinimurthy last decade
Regarding off tangent posts, I thought this was about answering Trigeminal neuralgia, but as the subject has gone off, My 2 pai's worth is this: There are companies in India, Indian owned and operated that are making gross profits from making look exactly alike packaged medicines, with one tenth to one half of the strength of legitimate drugs which are being exported to the west. People taking these generic drugs are not getting the proper dosage and are finding nothing works for them. Their symptoms worsen even to death as there is very little to distinguish the real thing from the false. Unless the packing is really looked at. (who does that) The consequenses of this is going to be Horrendous. Who has the moral high ground here The multinationals? or the counterfeiters? Everyone wins, except the sick.

Hi Parachute

The discussion is about a patient having trigemenial neuralgia, who is also taking a number of pills simultaneously.

As long as we limit the discussion to the taking of a number of allopathic medicines together, in a day, I believe it is not tangential.

So, you are not off the track, nor am I. :-)

gavinimurthy last decade
Point taken Murthy, as it has been pointed out, massive profits are the name of the game, people are not only deluded into taking more and more drugs, Doctors are being put into a position of overprescribing for many reasons. Being sue over trivial matters for astronomical amounts, paid for with insurance premiums also of rediculous amounts, which has to be paid for somehow. It is complecated to live in the west. Everything has a price but the true values have been diminished.

Thank you, Dr Sharma. I will ask her to try out
this remedy if the others do not work.

It appears she has attempted suicide before. I am
uncertain as to the cause of that - whether it was
due to the constant pain of trigeminal neuralgia.

She has had broken relationships and appears to
be divorced. She also appears to be quite a sensitive
person. Has castanet (dark brown) hair.

165 cm tall, 55 kg. Oval face.

When I called my homeopath about this, he said :

Suicide + Dark hair + right side pain = Ignatia 10M.

If the pain is like a nail being hit in the head....then Ignitia is the right remedy for her.

Specially suited to people who have had a broken love affair / relationship.

I was reading about the aspect of Key note prescribing.

First try to get the keynotes of the patient, and try to match the keynotes of the remedy to it.

Not the other way.

The key notes of the remedy have to match the general nature of the patient, and not an extension of a particular.
