Melasma & MSM anyone? | From itsavettethang [Log on to view profile] | on 2007-09-23 |

Hello everyone!!
I'm seeking any helpful advice.... For about 2 yrs. now I've been suffering w/this MELASMA!-Which,had it not been for forums such as this,I would still not know what this unsightly problem is that I seem to have developed. I am part Asian(Japanese) & I definetely fall under all of the suspected reasons;too much sun/tanning bed exposure, long term BC pill use, even some pimples that I shoulda' left alone---However, strangely, ALL of this I stopped LONG before my melasma appeared! After looking for various info from different sites, I've read alot about this MSM supplement. Can any one out there tell me more?(if it works, affordable, where do I get it,how & how often do I use/take it,etc...)Or any other advice that may give me obvious results---- I think my case is quite servere--- both cheeks & the worst & darkest is above my lip---that alone keeps me very insecure--not to mention depressed.I will surely appreciate any help!--The fewer treatment products, the better---I've read that some people have tried several medications multiple x's daily.I am better w/simple steps. However--I'll try what works!!!
Thanks for all the past and future information,
Sabrina |

Hi Sabrina,
well, i can only tell you when I have been doing this past week and a half... I purchased MSM from a healthfood store or any supplement store (maybe shoppers etc. as well) alog with that I purchased vitamin c (Ester-C to be exact), took 1, 1000mg in the morning and 1 vit c 1000mg, Evening 1 and 1 of each again, (Did this for 3 days and increased to 2 of each twice a day) I came across a vitamin c serum that I have been using as well daily night and day. I have to say I totally know where your heart is, and its almost hurtful to look in the mirror, at least it was for me. I have seen great results compared to what it was... give it a try... nothing to loose, been told msm is just about as pure as water, what your body does not require it will dispose of!... msm, 30$aprox, vit c 20$aprox, vit c serum 10$ let me know if you try and it works for you too! I hope it does I certainly wanna spread the word!!!! good luck u can email me if u need more info or wanna chat or need a little cheering squad!!!.
:)

Hi mandy99, I read your post about using MSM and Vitamin C. I recently bought pure patented MSM 1,000 mg capsules, Vitamin C 1,000 mg Pure L-Absorbic Acid capsules, and cod liver oil soft gels. Did I buy the correct MSM and Vitamin C?
I have tried everything (retin-a, epiquin, Murad, Grapefruit Extract Seed (GSE), etc. and nothing seems to work. I have epidermis (outer) and dermis (inner layer) melasma which is hard to treat. How severe (or deep) is your melasma? Like you and Sabrina, the melamsa above my lip makes me insecure and constantly looking and thinking about it. I am impressed to hear you have seen results in a week and half. Yay! :) Hope it will work for me.
Thanks

I too am looking for a "cure" for melasma. I'd just like to know if anybody using MSM has had good results--like everybody else I am desperate to find something that will work. Are there any before and after pictures?

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum. I am also looking for a cure for melasma. I'd also like to know if there is any specific MSM recommended for melasma. I have been suffering from this melasma for about 7 years now and it is getting worse. | This thread continues beneath the following ad.

Ladies, this post started in 2007, so I don't know if you will get the reply; however, I have melasma as well, pretty severely on my lip and cheeks, and now moving to my forehead. I was using hydroquinone...didn't work. I even got laser treatment...didnt' work.
Started using Vit C serum from Body shop, and Vit E intensive moisturizer from body shop...I take 3X a day:
1500 mg of MSM
500 mg Vit C
500 mg Cod Liver oil
(all from Vitamin shop)
It's a very slow process, but the color is really breaking up on my lip and is almost gone on my cheeks. I've been on the vitamins for 3 months, but really started seeing a difference when I incorporated the Vit C serum and Vit E cream. Also, I am military, deployed to the middle east where the sun is intense...even still, I am seeing it get better...usually deployments make it work...there is hope ladies!

I have just bought some supplements after doing some extensive research on other forums. I have had some temporary success with fraxel laser. This helps lift the pigment but doesnt cure it, as soon as my face hits sunlight even through a window the pigment reappears on my cheeks, forehead and upperlip. I am hoping the supplements cure this condition that I have delt with since my first pregnancy 4 years ago. It has been 3 days and I will repost after a month or so.
I take:
3000 mg MSM – 3 x day
1000 mg vitamin C – 3 x day
50 mg pycnogenol – 2 x day
20 drops of grapefruit seed extract – 3 x day
50 mg zinc – 1 x day | | |

I'm so happy to have stumbled on this site! I've had Melasma for 8 years - argghh!! - nothing works.
Can someone please explain what
MSM is (I thought it's something that's with Glucosamine?)
Is it grapeseed oil that's being recommended, or grapeFRUIT seed oil? I'm so, so so over these blotches on my face, I'm eager to try these vits! Please reply, I'm going to get these asap! |
