Objectives: A pharmacoeconomic study to compare, in terms of: medical effectiveness, quality of life and costs two treatment strategies (‘homeopathic strategy’ vs ‘antibiotic strategy’) used in routine medical practice by allopathic and homeopathic GPs in the treatment of recurrent acute rhinopharyngitis in 18-month to 4-year-old children.

Methods: Statistical analysis of data obtained from a population of 499 patients included in a previous 6-month prospective, pragmatic study. The patients were re-grouped according to type of drug prescribed. Medical effectiveness was assessed in terms of (i) episodes of acute rhinopharyngitis, (ii) complications, (iii) adverse effects. Quality of life was assessed using the Par-Ent-Qol© scale. Direct medical costs (medical consultations, drug prescriptions, prescriptions for further tests) and indirect medical costs (sick-leave) were evaluated from three viewpoints (society, patient, Social Security) using public prices and French Social Security tariffs.

Results: The ‘homeopathic strategy’ yielded significantly better results than the ‘antibiotic strategy’ in terms of medical effectiveness (number of episodes of rhinopharyngitis: 2.71 vs 3.97, P<0.001; number of complications: 1.25 vs 1.95, P<0.001), and quality of life (global score: 21.38 vs 30.43, P<0.001), with lower direct medical costs covered by Social Security (88€ vs 99€, P<0.05) and significantly less sick-leave (9.5% of parents vs 31.6% of parents, P<0.001).

Conclusions: Homeopathy may be a cost-effective alternative to antibiotics in the treatment of recurrent infantile rhinopharyngitis.

Keywords: recurrent acute rhinopharyngitis; homeopathy; antibiotics; cost; effectiveness; quality of life

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
My wife recently had a very debilitating fever crossing 103 degrees, with giddiness on rising, vomiting of bilious liqud, chest congetion, cough, and great weakness.

Had I taken her to an allopathic hospital, I would have spent atleast Rs 2000/- towards x-ray, blood tests, medicines alone. I have not included the room rent , which I am sure the doctors would have insisted upon.

She is made well in three days flat by a series of remedies. (Ars,Bry,Hep).

The weakness after fever too is gone in another three days.

The cost of medicines for me would have been less than a rupee ,as I need only 2 pellets of each medicine in the water dose.

The economics of a proper homeopathiv tretment has no comparision whatsoever with allopathic treatment.

Are there any antibiotics in Homeopathy?
Fact: Biotic ( living ) means science that deals with functions of life. Antibiotic means destructive to life. When you attend a party where hundreds of people are there, you will wave to few people, the people whom you know or people who respond to you . Similarly if hundred people are exposing to same bacteria at the same time, only few people develop disease. Not all are welcoming the bacteria, even if at it enters, it is destroyed by antibody of immunity system . Antibody is a protein developed in response to a specific antigen (foreign substance which produce disease) and controls it from producing a disease. That means our body develops suitable reacting antibody to each bacteria, each virus and each allergic substance .That is how, our health is maintained though we are exposed to bacteria every day. Whenever this immunity system weakens, disease develops. By strengthening Immunity system, Homeopathic remedies eliminate the need of antibiotics which develop many side effects. Homeopathic remedies stimulate Immunity system to produce different antibodies to different disease producing agents, there by no need to run for multiple vaccinations every year.

Homeopathic remedies treat following diseases effectively without antibiotics and brings rapid recovery without side effects: e.g. sinusitis, tonsillitis, urinary infection, ear infection, bronchitis, meningitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, gastro-enteritis (vomiting-diarrhea), dysentery, etc.. . Homeopaths give individually selected remedies to each patient with similar disease. As the condition improves Homeopaths change the medicine according to the need. Even though, new medicines are invented every year, there is no single homeopathic medicine out dated in two hundred years.
