The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Potencies, aggravations etc.

Is it safe to assume that higher potencies are more likely to cause aggravations? I never thought this would be the case, however, I had some horrible aggravations with Nux 30 and 200. For kicks, and since I could not take the aggravation any longer, I tried Nux 6. It seemed to settle the symptoms. I immediately felt slight aggravation - excitability, etc. - but they soon settled down. Could some of the experts out there, whenever they get a chance, speak on potency selection etc.? Are higher potencies only to be used when the psychological factors dominate the symptomology? Thanks in advance, as always.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
some people are more sensitive than others and so they undergo aggravations even with some remedies of medium potencies.

thus, its always better to start the treatment with a low potency and gradually go up.

children and very old persons are to be given low potencies.

acute cases are to be given low potencies with higher repetations.

chronic cases are to be given higher potencies after the lower ones.

mental symptoms are to be treated with higher potencies at infrequent doses.

and lastly, its the remedy which will decide whether a low potency or a medium potency shall be used to start with. this is because remedies differ in their actions with potencies and repetitions.

Rishimba,
Thanks for your reply. Very informative. I've been trying to figure out this information - only through trial and error, unfortunately! Thanks ever so much.

Rishimba,
One other thing, if you'll be so kind as to entertain another query. Is it always advisable to stop administering the remedy as soon as improvement is seen? What about the case where there is an improvement and then symptoms reappear? Should one re-dose with the initial potency or move up? Thanks again.

if the response is seen in the body, the remedy needs to be stopped gradually. like, 3 times to 2 times and finally 1 time a day.

when a significant response is achieved, the remedy needs to be stopped.

if the ailment reappears within 10 to 15 days, this means that a higher potency needs to be selected.

if the ailment reappears after a few months again, it generally means that the remedy selection was not based on the predominant miasm of the patient. in that case the homeopath has to ensure that the remedy is anti-miasmatic to the disease miasm in addition to being close to the totality of the symptoms. once this is concluded, the homeopath can go from lower to higher till the potency is reached that the disease will not re-appear.

Rishimba,
Another question for you! I believe Nux is my remedy. Unfortunately, I repeated a 1M dose and it has caused severe aggravation of my symptoms - these are lasting for 2 months now! I've tried Coffea, camphor, wine etc. to antidote. Nothing seems to work. Recently, I tried Nux 6x. It greatly alleviated the aggravation, but has not cleared it up completely. Do you think I can repeat the 6x dose? I am afraid of a re-aggravation. Any thoughts/advice would be very much appreciated. My basic symptoms that led me to nux were:
1) Frequent but ineffectual bowel movements
2)Stuffy nose during the day- esp. after meals
I thought the first symptom was very much aligned with nux. I had great success with Nux earlier. However, I repeated a 1M dose much too soon. Now am paying for it. Any advice, as stated before, very much appreciated. Thanks again.

you can repeat nux 6x. sometimes a lower potency antidotes higher potencies if the suffering is mostly physical.

one should not go for such high potencies for physical troubles. frequent doses of 30c and after noting your response, infrequent doses of 200c should be enough.

Rishimba,
Thanks for your invaluable advice. I regret not asking before! 6x seems to have helped. It has settled the aggravation. I will wait and see. I hope this thread provides a cautionary tale to self-prescription! After taking too many repetitions of 30x and getting some intense aggravations I assumed that lower potencies were causing the aggravation - under the pretense that more of the 'raw' material is in lower potencies. With this logic in hand, I moved to a 1M dose. Needless to say, I am just getting over an aggravation - or proving -that has lasted 2 months! With nux this entailed: irritability, photophobia, blistering headache, ineffectual bowel movements, waking at 3am. It was horrible! Thanks again, Rishimba, for your sound advice.

Hi GUys

You have also illustrated something we sometimes forget when dealing with aggravations. The same remedy in lower potency often allieviates the agg. without resorting to other antidotes and so on. This is the case when an appropriate medicine is given but in too high potency.

Sycotic,
Who would have thunk it? It seems so counter-intuitive! But it does work. I'm hoping to finally get over this aggravation. It has persisted the better of 2 months now. Unbelievable. If it weren't so deleterious to my overall health it would be a fascinating study! Thanks for everyone's input.

Angina - like symptoms as well. Unbelievable.

Hello,
I am still suffering from aggravations of Nux. Perhaps at this point - 1 month since I took a 1M dose - this can be classified as a proving. Do any of the experts out there know how to fix this? I tried taking a dose of Nux 6x to alleviate. It did take some of the edge off. But the main symptom - atony of the intestines causing frequent but ineffectual bowel movements - has not dissipated in over 1 month! I am at my wits end. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Did you ever get a response to your question? I'm having a similar problem with my son. Our homeopath instructed to give 1M of Silica every three days. I did this for 10 days before I decided he was having aggravation and stopped. I am currently waiting for the 6c remedy to come in the mail to try to alleviate the aggravation.

Dear KXP5058,
I wish I could say I have found a way to successfully antidote, but its very difficult. Compounded by the sensitivity of the patient. Every remedy offered as an antidote seemed to antidote only by causing its own aggravation! Hopefully time and/or re-dosing in lower potency will settle the aggravation. Sorry to be of no help. All the best.
