Dr.Rajiv Prasad Sir,Respected forum members....Please help.. Recurrent Viral gastroenteritis in Two year old...!!
My son (2 years 4 months old)suffers from recurrent Viral Gastroenteritis especially after he has turned 2 years of age in September 2006.The doctor said that he has been contracting Viral Gastroenteritis in Winter( Here in Delhi).This has happened 5 times.
This in in spite of his mother giving him purified & Boiled water always
In the fourth time in January 2007 first week, the doctor ultimately prescribed antibiotics- Ofloxacin & Metrinadazole for 5 days which was given.
This time again he has got Viral Gastroenteritis/Stomach flu with lot of vomiting but very less watery stools.He has also got a light fever & has got cold/cough.
On the advice of someone, I had given him Ipecac-30 but it didnt help.
I was thinking about Arsenic alb-30 but am not sure about the dosage & Potency.
In this regard please advice which Homeopathic medicine have to be given to cure him this time & in which potency & dosage?
Please also advice which Homeopathic medicine have to be given to prevent this recurrent Viral gastroenteritis/Viral infection?

First of all, i am not a doctor.I practice homeopathy as a hobby.Have learned it on my own with self study and by treating people for quite a few years.
For your son's case, you need to tell me the symptoms of a typical attack.What happens?Loose stools, then how many in a day, what type of stools, colour, consistency, smell, appearance etc.Does the child appear to be in pain before or while passing the stool?Does he suffer from colic or is it painless stool?Does he get relief from colic etc. after passing the stool?What are the other illnesses that he has suffered from since birth? What happened before these attacks started?Was he vaccinated just prior to when these attacks started?Or some other illness was suppressed with allopathic treatment etc.?Was his mother suffering from some illness while breastfeeding?What are the major illnesses that run in your family on both your and your wife's side for two generations?
Is the child more thirsty or less thirsty during these attacks?Is he averse to hot or cold environment?Is he a quiet or a restless child?Does he sleep easily or is disturbed at night?Is he able to digest milk easily or not?Food likes and aversions.What are the food items that he cannot tolerate well?What gives him relief during these attacks?Does he try to press his stomach by lying on his stomach or some other mannerisms that you have noticed?
Any other symptom that is peculiar and striking?

Its very humble of you. At least I feel that any person who helps sick people recover is a Doctor irrespective of a formal degree.
Right now , I am very concerned about his health as
HE HAS ALMOST NOT BEEN EATING SINCE THE LAST ONE WEEK.
Now he has got temperature about 100 degree, Cough,Cold & Vomiting but this time he doesnt have watery stools.
My first priority is to cure him of his immediate ailments & then take steps to prevent the recurrence.
I am giving the answers of all your questions.
What happens? Loose stools, then how many in a day, what type of stools, colour, consistency, smell, appearance etc.
Viral gastroenteritis - Vomiting for initial 2-3 days & then very watery light yellow foul smelling stools.Stools for 5-6 times.
Does the child appear to be in pain before or while passing the stool?
No Pain.He feels nauseated.
Does he suffer from colic or is it painless stool?
No colic.Painless.
Does he get relief from colic etc. after passing the stool?
No Colic.
What are the other illnesses that he has suffered from since birth?
He has suffered mostly from Viral Respiratory problems & Gastrointestinal problems.
Since his second birthday he is suffering more.

I need to give you the dates of his Viral gastroenteritis/fever attacks.
He had a sudden very high fever on 01.10.2006. Dengue was prevalent in here in Delhi.Dengue was suspected . a number of blood tests were done including Malarial , Typhoid tests. Nothing wrong was found.
The fever came down after 2 days .Then the Diarrhea started.. Very watery light yellow foul smelling stools. (No Vomiting).He was given Sulphur 30 for two days. Diarrhea was controlled.
Just after the first attack, on 11.10.2006 he was given the Influenza vaccine .
Then on 25.10.2006, he was given the Typhoid & Hepatitis-A vaccine simultaneously.
I always suspected the Influenza vaccine-- I dont why.. But I feel that after the vaccinations were given he is having this recurrent Viral Infections (gastroenteritis & Respiratory).
On 08.11.2006 he had diarrhea - Vomiting & Loose stools .Doctor (Pediatrician) said he had Viral gastroenteritis. He was given Arsenic 30 & Aloes 30 alternately (Ars for 2 days & Aloes for 4 days.
On 22.11.2006 he again had diarrhea - Vomiting & Loose stools .Doctor (Paediatrician) said he had Viral gastroenteritis.He was given Sulphur 200 in the beginning & then aloes-30 alternately for 2 days ..
On 04.01.2007 he again had diarrhea - very severe Vomiting & very loose light yellow foul smelling watery stools .Doctor ordered stools tests but the tests showed nothing wrong.He was given antibiotics - Ofloxacin & Metronidazole for 5 days & seven days respectively.
On 19.01.2007 he got Cold & Cough & Light temperature.(Viral ??).He was prescribed allopathic cough syrup .
On 26.01.2007 suddenly at night he started vomiting again.That condition is still persisting.Now he has got temperature about 100 degree, Cough,Cold & Vomiting but this time he doesnt have watery stools.

His mother was has Got Cervical Spondylosis. .MRI shows damage between C5 & C6.She is taking Kalmia -200 one dose weekly. By the grace of God she is well now.
His mother has got sinusitis problem.Occasionally she has got respiratory problems. She suffers from constipation too.
What are the major illnesses that run in your family on both your and your wife's side for two generations?
My wife suffered from two miscarriages before God blessed us with our son.As I already wrote His mother has got sinusitis problem.Occasionally she has got respiratory problems.She suffers from constipation too.
I am a perenially anxious & depressive person .( Anxiety Neurosis !!)
About my side-
My father suffers from Hypertension & Heart related problems.He is taking allopathic medicines regularly.The heart scan done in Apollo Hospital last year showed everything is Ok by the grace of God.
My mother suffers from Chronic Gastric problems & IBS (??).She is taking allopathic medicines regularly.
About my wife's side-
She lost her father 7 years back. He was 54.He had a lot of gastric problems & IBS (??).Though I dont know much about him, from what I have heard. He could not eat properly for atleast 25 years.He used to take meals only once a day.He did not take/get good treatment as he was from rural side.
Her mother suffers from Arthritis.But still by the grace of God; she is a very active & hardworking person.
Is the child more thirsty or less thirsty during these attacks?
The child is always thirsty & drinks a lot of Water.Always asks for a lot of water, even during this attacks.. But is not able to take much water during attacks.

Averse to cold environment.

By the grace of God, he is not a quiet child. Except when he has fever, he doesnt stay quiet.
Does he sleep easily or is disturbed at night?
He sleeps easily but is disturbed by nasal congestion which is more during winter.

He dislikes & doesnt take milk. He still takes Mothers milk.
Food likes and aversions.What are the food items that he cannot tolerate well?
He is a very poor & fussy eater.
He cannot tolerate eggs,Chicken.He dislikes sweets& toffees.He likes Namkeens & salty things.
But he likes Icecream.The doctor had prescribed Zinc & iron based tonic syrups to build up immunity.But he cannot tolerate it as Zinc makes his nauseatic & Iron leads to Constipation.
What gives him relief during these attacks?
Only thing which gives him relief is The Ondansetron (Allopathic) anti-vomiting syrup.& Mothers milk.
Does he try to press his stomach by lying on his stomach or some other mannerisms that you have noticed?
No he doesnt press his stomach, but when he has fever, he presses his forehead /temple on the bed & becomes very quiet.

It seems tha the vaccinations have done the damage.Since he is all the time having fever and viral infection is suspected, i think the flu vaccine may be the culprit.I suggest that you give him a couple of doses of Influenzium 30 dissolved in water.2 drops of the remedy should be dissolved in a cup of water and stirred 50 times.Then give a teaspoonful as a dose.Watch what happens over the next couple of days.Most probably it will start the curative process.If fever goes up by a couple of degrees a short while after the remedy, do not panic as it would mean remedy response.It would come down on its own.But if the fever goes beyond 103 only then give a dose or two of Pyrogenium 30.But this only if necessary.Look for symptoms such as improvement in appetite, energy level, reduction in fever etc.
Constitutionally your child appears to be a Phosphorous.But that is for later.Keep in touch with me after a week and i will help you.
