Restless Legs

My husband has been diagnosed with restless legs. He is taking requip but it doesn't help very much. I Feel very sorry for him. When he tries to take a nap or sit and relax, his legs start bothering him. He says that it feels like his skin is crawling and he has to move. Looks like torture to me. Does anyone have any information on different things we can try to relieve these symptoms? I have tried massaging his legs and rubbing lotion on them. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Take a look into Rhus Tox.
His restless legs would be worse for cold, damp weather. Better in warmth.

His personality would lack warmth; resistant to change; suspicious of outside threats; slow to open up to new people.

I have a friend with restless legs and someone told him to try taking the following at night: one calcium, one magnesium and one vitamin c tablet. He said it worked for him.. Thse are some supplements you may have already.. good luck..

I checked Murphy's leg chapter. I don't know if any of this might help (you would need to read up about the individual remedies to see if it made sense for him). There are separate listings under 'formication, sensation' (e.g., like crawling ants) and 'restlessness'. It sounds as though he is restless because of the crawling sensation? If so, formication may be more important.

Under formication, the highest scores are Calcarea, Agar., Nux Vomica, Sec., Sepia. Surprisingly, I don't see Rhus Tox listed at all.

Under Restlessness for which the highest score generally was Zinc, the following also scored high: Ars, Kali-C, Rhus Tox, Tarent, Zinc, Causticum, Ferr, Med, Tub, Sabadilla. Restless legs while sitting are highest for Rhus Tox and Zinc.

I've had good results with Zincum Met and Ignatia - not together. If one doesn't work the other usually does. Good luck - it can be torture.

Zinc Met is a very useful remedy in this case. However, an electro-homoeo medicine know as WHITE ELECTRICITY prepared by JSO Germenay 20 drops in a glass of milk at night time will also be a remedy.

If he moves his legs in sleep frequently...then Zincum Met is the medicine.

Can be due to skin condition...coz Zincum patient has skin eruptions, irritations etc.

Keeps his hand on the scrotum quite often.

A Zincum Met. patient gets a headache within one hour of drinking wine.

None of these remedies appear to have anything to do with formication (which apparently is the cause of the restlessness).

I always thought my restless legs at night or in the evenings was genetic circulation problems. I never did anything about it and my family put up with me having to bounce my legs while watching TV in the evening. I was astounded when I saw my first Requip commercial.
I have other symptoms that may or may not be related: hair loss, dry hair, tiny blisters on palms and soles of my feet that dry to a flaky, itchy condition (verry embarassing in the summer sandal season), and headaches. I quit smoking in November and expected the restless legs to get better but no relief. I can sometimes get relief at night by sleeping on my stomach. Reading all of the homeopathic remedies available is a bit daunting. I don't know where to begin. When I plugged in all of my maladies, Sulphur came back.

No bowel or stool problems. I do take Zantac every day for excessive stomach acid. It is a relatively new development and the doctor says this problem is due to stress.

I use Mirapex for my restless legs and it is absolutely the best answer.
