The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Adenoids, tonsils

I have a child with an airway constriction. He also has large adenoids and tonsils. He has had strep twice, and enlarged nodes in neck, we think may be due to chronic fighting off things in adenoids(adenoiditis) and tonsils. He is five and weighs 48 pounds. They want to take them out. They are causing post nasal drip and mild sleep issues. I would like to try homeopathy first. Is there anything that can target the tonsils directly and reduce swelling.
Thanks
crystal

Dear Rishimba,

My son aged 5 also have the same problem of chronic enlarged tonsils. It is there for around two years. Since i didnt want a surgical solution, i have been visiting almost all homeopaths in this area without any improvement.
I will be thankful if you can suggest some remedy for him. I am sure you would like to know other details also.
He is easily prone to colds. The very next day he takes a head bath, he will have nasal catarrah, initilly water, then whitish thick and then yellowish. For this matter we give a head bath only monthly once.
He is lean. Very active. He has sleep disturbances due to swollen tonsils. He has teeth grinding ( more like clicking sound) problem also.
He has a very dry skin. In winter , his skin below the knees become scaly.
He suffers from egg allergy. He wets bed whenever he sleeps. He gets cold when he eats watery fruits and citric fruits. Even eating plantains will give him a nose block.
some times he cries in the night due to pain in the bones between the shin and the ankles. He is very shy type with strangers and when he is out of the house.
In his child hood (till three years), he has taken lot of heavy antibiotics. He is easily affected by cold climates. After a bath in the morning, he shivers.
Myself and my wife , both are of hydrogenoid constitution.

He had been given many homeopathic medicines by different doctors.
Should i give him the same calc phos 200c as given above or some other medicines?

your son looks to be more of BARYTA CARB.

have you tried baryta on your son, i think it would work on him.

it was probably not a very wise decision to let him have antibiotics at such a tender age. constant intake of anti biotics reduces the immunity of the child and he will be susceptible to cold even more.

Dear Rishimba,

Thanks a lot for the advice. I will put him on Baryta carb.
potency 30 c will do? can you please tell me the dosage also?.
I have read about some homeopathic medicine which nullify the bad effects of allopathic medicine. ( i think it is Nux vomica but iam not sure). Is it necessary to give some thing like that before starting baryta carb?
I am waiting for you reply regarding the dosage. Should i give the pills or split dose?
regards,
Anil

if your son has taken antibiotics in the last couple of days, you may give him a dose of NUX VOM 30C to start with.
this will prepare the gound for the rest of the remedies but the lost immunity will only come with time if he stops having antibiotics, has natural fruits ( vitamins ) and vegetables etc.

give him BARYTA CARB 200C every four hours whenever he starts suffering. you may give him as long as the symptoms persists.

gradually, he will develop an immunity to cold and the episodes of 'common-cold' would be less and less frequent.

Thank you Rishimba,

Since he has not taken any anti biotics for almost one year, it seems nux vomica is not needed.
I will give him Baryta carb 200 and see for the improvement.

Thank you once again,
regards
Anil

Hi, I am new to this forum but wanted to ask a question since everybody on here seems to have more useful information than my daughter's pediatrician. My daughter is 22 months old and only weighs about 25 pounds. She's always been healthy and a normal baby up until recently. In the last 6 months she has suffered from tonsilitis almost 5 times. Each time she gets this, its starts with a high fever, and her tonsils become enlarged red and with pus. Each time I take her to the doctor, they give her a strep test (which always comes out negative) but then prescribe antibiotics to see if that will help anyway, and usually it does help right away. But it keeps coming back every few weeks and her tonsils always look enlarged to me. I am beginning to think that this never leaves her body. Now I have to take her to see an ENT next week to discuss removing her tonsils since her pediatrician thinks this is what needs to be done. This is the last thing I want to do and I wondered if anyone had any suggestions of what I could try. Someone recommended I sprinkle ginseng powder in her food to rebuild her immune system, but I am not sure how much since she is so tiny. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you!

my advise would be NOT to remove her tonsils under any circumstances.

repeted dosing of antibiotics has weakened her immunity for cold.

she will get back this immunity through proper homoeopathic treatment and diet.

start giving her a homoeopathy tonic ALFALFA-Q some 5 to 10 drops 3 times a days around 45 minutes before food.

also, describe the child in terms of her bodily shape, habbits, behaviour, cravings and aversions, any strange idiosyncracies etc. to suggest a constitutional remedy.

Thank you rishimba! I will get the tonic today and start right away. I have to bring her to see the ENT tomorrow but I am going to take your advice and explain that I would like to avoid removing her tonsils. To answer your question, she wieghs about 26 pounds and looks more tall than chubby. She usually doesn't eat that much but when she does she tends to favor vegetables, greens in particular. She loves broccoli, green beans, peas, spinach and salad. She drinks alot of milk and likes all cheese. She likes pretzels and chocolate and does not care much for red meat or chicken, only on occasion. No idiosyncracies come to mind right now. She has alot of energy and is generally a very happy baby--always smiling and laughing and very friendly. She loves to play with other children and is very generous. Again, thank you for all your help--I truly appreciate it and I will let you know what the dr. tells me tomorrow.

its difficult to prescribe a constitutional dose to the child with the limited information.

however, in this growing stage, CALC PHOS works often as a remedy for cold and cough.

please start giving her ALFALFA tonic and if she catches cold and her tonsils become enlarged and red, give her a few doses of BELLADONA 30C at 3 to 4 hours interval in the initial stages of the cold.

later, based on symptoms, homoeopathic treatment should be done instead of putting her on antibiotics again.
